I am 15 and have been a member all of my life. I have heard loads of things for and against the Church, relevant or otherwise. However, I have chosen to believe in its' doctrine, and I find it is exactly what I've needed during my short life span.

In comparison to other girls my age, I have never done drugs, had sex, drunken, or any of those other things that many girls my age have been part of. I believe it is because of what I grew up learning as a child all my life.

I believe in the Book of Mormon, that Joseph Smith was a sincere, honest man that died for what he believed in, and the truth he had restored to the Earth. I believe that Gordon B. Hinkley is a true prophet, and that he leads the church in truth today, as will his successor. I testify that these things are true, and I have never been so sure of these things as I am now, at 15 years of age.

Recently I questioned these beliefs, and I have only had my beliefs in the Church strengthened by this particular period of time when I really need them most. You may or may not find my opinion valid, as I am still young, but really think about it; why in the world would a fifteen year old, someone bound to be rebellious, uncaring, cocky, want to admit her beliefs in a so-called false religion? I really don't know..

Dear Lynn,

I've been a faithful Mormon since I was twenty years old. Believe me, the charges made by the non-Mormons who answered your question are 'way off base. Keep you eyes (and your mind) open, and listen to both sides. That's what I did -- through much of my sophomore year in college. I investigated the charges and the responses for almost a year. It's great to have a good research library at a university when you're trying to get to the bottom of things!

Eventually, I came to know that "Mormonism" was actually the gospel of Jesus Christ, restored in all its beauty and purity. Noiw, that sort of knowledge doesn't come from research, but from prayerful reading and meditation.

The day I learned that the Book of Mormon is scripture, that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true is 'bout the most important day of my life -- right up there with the day my dear wife agreed to marry me.

It is all about interpretation.

Mormons have a different interpretation of Christian scripture. They also employ the Book of Mormon. Though I have my doubts on the validity of it's origins the message seems to be pure an harmless.

My only concern is their strict and literal interpretation of the bible.

I would suggest that you do your research and if this is an attempt for you to find a faith, I would suggest that you read from all the world religious books and doctrines and come to your own conclusions first. Finding God is a personal journey, organized religion no matter what it is take away that personal journey.

Good Luck

I lived in Utah for seven years, its hard to walk away from all that powdery snow. Mormons practice selective kindness, not very effective in following what Jesus teaches about loving ones neighbor, or loveing others like they would like to be loved. Otherwise, there really nice people. I have a real hard time understanding how babtising your dead relatives into the faith does anything other than increase the Churches membership status tho.

First of all I don't want to sound like I'm saying anything bad about the Mormons, I'm just stating what I actually believe about the Mormon religion.

Now with that being said, The Mormon religion is one of the religions I don't believe religiously. In other words I believe the book of Mormon to be a great fictional Holy book from beginning to end. I have red it many times.

However I believe it to be one of the best religions out there. I know what you are going to say, how can I say the religion is fake at the same time as I'm saying it's great.

Well like other answers said before me it's kind of like a South Park episode.

If a fake religion makes you a giving, happy, friendly, true to yourself, ect. ect. good person then I'm all for that religion.

The truth is there is not many religions that can match this including the religions I believe to be true religions.

I often say this about Athiests, however it holds true to this religion also.

If you are a good person in every aspect of the word good, how can a good God send you to eternal damnation?

In my opinion when it comes to Gods judgement, God does not judge you at all when it comes to religion. God judges you on the person you are not what religion you are.

i would suggest you not only look at what they teach you about the mormon faith and it's foundation but what they leave out or don't even know themselves...

a good place to start is the Brigham Young Journal of Discourses

"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind....Cain slew his brother. Can might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, page 290).

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." (Journal of Discourses, Volume 10, page 110.)

Tao Barbie has pointed out that the people tend to be nice. That's good, but do you need a religion to be a nice person?

This is a religion which was founded by a man who claimed he found some 'magic spectacles' which allowed him to read a 'secret set of plaques' which no-one else was ever allowed to see. The plaques said he could have as many wives as he wanted, and would get to have a whole planet to himself after he died so long as he wore special 'magic underwear'. I am serious.

Sound like it's for real to you? Not to me. I think Joesph Smith was dishonest and made up a religion because he liked the idea of having lots of wives.

unfortunately you will not find the answer you are looking for here. As they're a lot of people who let media or have they're own personal reason why they hate mormons blind them from truth. I want to know anything that concerns GOD its HE who you should ask not people who know nothing of a religion. I was baptized 2yrs ago and my life has changed 180 degrees. Went from a frat boy to a church boy and I have never been happier. I don't need drugs or other people's approval to be happy, I just need GOD in my life.

As a Buddhist, I have observed that Mormons are pleasant people. They radiate peace, and have a certain friendly confidence inside them. They accept everyone equally. They do not argue, debate, or become angry about the beliefs of others. They live in peace. Mormons must have something good going for them, and it seems to be working.

Jesus said, "You will know a tree by it's fruit"
Other Christian denominations argue, strive, judge, condemn. Mormons relax. They are family oriented. They do not talk about love. They live it. To me, that is good fruit.

Unfortunately Mormonism is a false religion. It was started by a guy named Joseph Smith who was a con man and a liar. He had multiple wives and had a body guard who he would order to kill people. The mormon faith is based on the idea that a jewish family settled the americas in around 400bc and that modern day native americans are direct descendants of those jewish settlers. DNA evidence has proven this to be false. Native americans are descended from northern asia and siberia not Jews. Mormons do not believe in Jesus Christ. They believe Jesus is a spirit brother to Lucifer which is also wrong. Jesus is God the only begotten of the Father. The mormons reject this. The book of mormon is full if inconsistancies. All the places and peoples mentioned in the book of mormon cannot be proven historically. While the people and places in the Bible can be proven historically. There are many other proofs to the falsehood of mormonism especially when compared with Biblical Christianity.
