Hi, I also am scared of flying which has recenlty developed from a bad experience on a previous flight. However, I had to get back on a plane to go on honeymoon but got myself into such a state about it-lol my docter prescribed me valium. We went to Antigua and I got thru 5 tablets, 3 there and 2 for on the way back. On the way out i took the first a hour befoe boarding time-by the time we were up in the air i wanted to cry but couldnt as was so relaxed. The docter said it would help calm me and i should be able to sleep but it didnt have that affect on me-my partner said if anything it made me a bit hectic as i didnt stop fidgeting at times-lol. if i started to feel like i was tensing back up with nerves i would take another tablet so on a 7 and 1/2 hr flight i got thru 3 tablets. On the way back it was a night flight so i manged to fall asleep without taking the 3rd
I not sure of what strength they were but they were small white tablets and i would say they helped alot as without them i would of been tense, shaking, breathing like in labour-lol and had the sick bag on stand by
I really want to take my little boy to florida next year but i cant bring myself to book it due to the thought of flying making me feel faint about the whole thing but i will be speaking with my docter to see if can prescribe me again as i dont want the fear to beat me and spoil my sons excitment of goin

Umm... well think how long is the flight going to be, if it's a 1-10 hour flight then try sleeping (bring a comfy pillow). Also you can try to think of all the great things that are going to happen when your at where your going to! You can combine the two and try to dream about what you are going to do when your at where you are going! See if that helps!

Serious answer to a serious question.

I have seen on T.V. that some travel companies do run flights and/or simulators for those who are nervous of flying. I would suggest you make contact with either your travel company to see whether that is still a possibility prior to your (real) flight.

Alternatively, ask your GP to prescribe some valium or other similar medication prior to your flight.

I wanted to go by plane so bad I just got on and I was fine. I never thought of anything except that I was going to have a longer vacation because I chose the plane .

Once you accept that your fate is already in the lap of the gods - you will no longer be afraid. Try deep breathing exercises and think happy thoughts. If the plane is going to crash, it'll crash, you will not be alive long enough to suffer!

Well personally for me... its not the fear of flying that worries me, its crashing into the side of a big mountain or plunging burning into the sea....the way I overcome it is to drink large volumes of G&T until I pass out.

Drink Vodka and arrive at the airport with a buzz. I am an aircraft mechanic that flies twice weekly and am scared to death to fly, that is how I cure the jitters

Whenever you start to feel nervous sing very quietly to yourself - just a simple song that you know well.

Concentrate on the singing and you'll relax more. It helps a lot!

This is an ideal opportunity to meditate... close your eyes and get in touch with yourself.... not about the plane ride ...You may learn something about your choices for the future... but try not to daydream... thats something differant
