What's the name for the white part of the eye? Give both scientific and non-scientific names if you could, preferably the everyday spoken one.

What's the name for the (brown, green, blue.....) part of the eye? I'm not asking about pupil, iris..... I am asking for the name of that whole part of the eye, i.e. the non-white part of the eye as a whole.

Thank you.

At first I wasn't going to answer this, but I can't stand wrong answers.

The white part of the eye is the sclera, the colored part is the iris. The pupil/iris combo does not have a name as far as I know.

The cornea is transparent and covers the whole eye, so that's obviously not it. The lens is on the inside of the pupil, and the retina is in the back of the eye, so no luck there either.

I agree with the previous answerer. The colored part is the iris. The black part is the pupil. I don't think there is a name for the combination of the iris and the pupil.

adding to the above, the iris - pupil combination is a misnomer, it is actually one part because the pupil is not a part per se, it is an opening in the iris,,,ie,, a defect, and it looks black for the same reason a room looks dark from outside through the window on a sunny day although you can see clearly inside!
