"Frustrated by lax enforcement of immigration law, businesses are taking their fight against illegal immigration to court, accusing competitors of hiring illegal workers to achieve an unfair advantage."
"Santa Monica-based Global Horizons claimed in the lawsuit that Munger Bros., a grower, hired illegal immigrant workers from Ayala Agricultural Services and J&A Contractors. All the defendants are based in California's farm-rich Central Valley.
The lawsuit alleges that Munger Brothers had a contract with Global Horizons to provide more than 600 blueberry pickers this spring, but nixed the agreement so it could hire illegal immigrants.
"Competitors hiring illegal immigrants is hurting our business badly," Global Horizons President Mordechai Orian said. "It's to the point that doing business legally isn't worth it."
What do you think of this?

I agree that it is unfair business practices, and that companies that hire illegals are contributing not only to the illegal immigration problem, but to unemployment for the Americans they could be hiring. If they want to make money in America, they need to learn to part with it and pay a fair wage to America's citizens. I don't believe that illegal aliens should be hired under any circumstances.

Technically, the lawsuit has a valid point. I can see the liability there.
There are obviously larger issues at stake here though than the regional produce industry. I'm in favor of relaxed immigration standards, but it is unfair to compete with a company that isn't forced to pay minimum wage or taxes because they hire illegals. We need to make the illegal workers taxable, and they may also then enjoy a minimum wage (which isn't much, but more than what they're probably getting now).
It's important to note that historically, business has moved government.

Yes because by being able to pay less for manpower the profit margin is much larger by the amount of dollars that you save on labor....

SURE ITS HURTING THE LEGAL BUSINESS BADLY BECAUSE THEY CANNOT COMPETE WITH THE LOWER PRICES OF RETAIL FORM THOSE WHO HIRE ILLEGALS. IN A WAY ITS GOOD BECAUSE IT KEEPS THE PRICES DOWN WHICH BENEFIT ALL OF US VS. THE FEW RICH GROWERS WHO WISH TO SELL YOU ANYTHING FOR A HIGHER PROFIT.
