I can attest to the severity of pain associated with a brush with the Australian Stinging Tree named Dendrocnide moroides ... it is VERY painful and lasts for days. However you would have to fall into a patch of small plants to get a sting bad enough to hospitalize you and I very much doubt you would die unless you had a weak heart and the sting shocked you.

But I would say that the Poison Ivy / Poison Oak type plants are more to be feared. The poison in this group of plants can give you an increasing levels of reaction if you come into contact with them repeatedly. I heard of a forester in Papua New Guinea who said that he thought he would die if he even set foot in a particular piece of forest again. This forest had Semecarpus (Poison Ivy relative) growing in it.

No, there are no man eating plants. The most dangerous plants are the various species of giant stinging trees found in northern Australia. Simply brushing against one can have potentially fatal effects, though it is most likely to just reuslt in severe pain.

only in the movies, but i have been trying to cross pollinate several carnivorous plants with some larger plants to create a larger plant that could feed on larger quantities of flesh. but , all attemps so far have failed. this type of thing takes years, and i have lost four fingers already, anyone willing to take over for me?
