Gatorade was always a beverage of choice when my kids were young. Especially when they had flu, etc. Unless things have changed I have not heard that.

If they never got plain water and just drank gatorade for fluids, it could contribute to a condition that would make kidney infection more likely.
Just having a drink of gatorade once in a while would not.
My children drink primarily water, but I do give them diluted gatorade also when they are out playing soccer.
Sugar in the body feeds unfriendly bacteria. Gatorade contains lots of sugar.

Do you dilute it with half water? I've heard you need to mix water in because its made for adult bodies. I've been told when my kids are sick (by doctors and nurses) to give pedialyte or gatorade. My kids are in sports and I've never heard about harm from gatorade. Any chance its something else going on? I just don't think a sports drink would do that, or there would probably be something on the label to warn about an age restriction.

I've never heard that, but my roommate in college was a nursing student and she said you should never drink sports drinks unless you are losing fluids either through sweating, vomiting, or diarrhea. She said it could cause heart problems if overused when it's not needed.

I have had many bouts with kidney stones and infections. After my last surgery, my Dr. told me to drink lots of water and Gator-Aide, but to avoid sodas, coffee, and most juices.
Gator-Aide will not harm them.
