Do you think the ultimate downfall of the human race will be because of the growing conflicts between the various religions throughout the world?

Its an honest question for any who would care to comment and I don't mean to offend any religious view and/or beliefs anyone holds. It just that I have noticed that the major conflicts throughout humankind's history have revolved around differing religious views, i.e., the Romans at one point persecuting Christians, Hilter's persecution of Jews, the current conflict surrounding Islam. I wonder if at some point the conflict between various religious beliefs and views will become so intense that it will eventually cause the human race to decline to extinction.

I think it is pretty well documented the downfall of the human race will be caused by the human race.
Religion will have nothing to do with it .We are only tenants on this planet and we are destroying more of it each day .
The religious trouble of today is nothing new .It has gone on for centuries.
The way the population is growing the world will not be able to substain feeding everyone. So we have wars to keep the population in check .
The difference in religious beliefs is a problem. But the main trouble with mankind is the way we are killing the planet..

You make some assumptions in your question, neither of which I agree with. You assume that mankind will have a downfall; I believe, mankind will continue to grow and expand. You look at conflicts in terms of religious denomination. I suggest that if you look at the influence of money, you would have a clearer understanding of why conflicts grow. For instance, do you think the US would be involved in a war on terrorism if they did not have the capital to throw at the problem? Do you think there would be such antagonism towards the west if its wasn't so grossly richer than the developing world? But if you want to, you can talk about it as a battle between radical Islam and Christianity, by doing so, you can avoid recognizing the obvious inequity, and continue to use incredible military might against lightly armed peasants and still feel you hold some moral high ground.

Nature has a way of creating balance. Truth is too hard to hide. Eventually we will all realize we have to get on with our neighbors, we are better off when we cooperate. Its blindness to human need, greed, that causes conflict but such need always grows and shows itself. Religious ideas also have to deal with the reality of human nature. Religion exist in the human heart and usually its a peace making force but the tendency to not see all people as my neighbor has stymied the intention of religious leaders.

A final reflection I offer is that the conflicts of the world have lead to technical advancement rather that downfall. It is struggle that brings about creative solutions and the political will to achieve them. The cost is high but there a benefits which we all enjoy today. Life is complicated.

I think there is a chance of that... but I think that there are other more important dangers to be faced.

Religions stopping scientific research. Whether you know it or not, we are in a race. We are in a race to achieve a high enough level of technology to safeguard/protect us... before a major disaster (asteroid collision, changing of atmosphere, introduction of new disease or life-form, appearance of a mass of strangelets, etc) or we run out of resources and cannot proceed further. I'm not saying we run full tilt with scientific research... I'm saying that stopping funding in evolutionary biology (check the news yesterday in America concerning grant funding & you'll see what I mean) could have consequences later.

Knowledge and it's application are the greatest survival tools humans have. We shouldn't avoid using them because of irrational myths & superstitions.

Jesus taught that in this generation when Israel becomes nation again (1948 & after) the hearts of many will wax cold.He also taught of wars & rumors of wars and of false peace agreements in this generation. He also taught that many will become perverse in many ways sexually, morally and accept relative thinking. Then a great battle is coming and supernatural event concludes this battle and after this satan himself comes playing Jesus and will deceive many.THEN its over Jesus comes and all flesh willchange into soulbody.Hope your ready for this these events are what your seeing.

I disagree. The ultimate downfall of humanity will probably never happen, but if it does, it'll be a really terrific natural event.
