I ran blood banks for a number of years, and if your doctor approved, I would accept your blood. If the American Association of Blood Banks has a specific rule against it, I am not aware of it.

My husband had cancer in 1998 and was told that he could no longer donate. Check with your local blood institute.

Blood transfusion is discouraged from cancer patients because even if a single cell is transfused the receipient may get the disease.. In your case there is no chance of your transmitting a cancer cell into any receipient.

If the first tier of personnel at the blood bank balk at taking you as a donor, ask to speak to the medical director.

I would think after so long after remission that you could, but if someone told you that you couldn't, then I guess not. Be sure to check, though.

my doctor never told me this, but I have only been cancer free 2 yrs. thank you for bringing this to my attention, I will check with my doctor too.

I had Lymphoma, and they told me that I cannot give blood permanently. But, check with your local blood bank.

I can't donate because I was born overseas and lived there.
