I just heard tonight about how they used to hold boxing matches onboard ship to alleviate boredom and it really struck me that he could've kicked my *** when I was 16 and I told him to **** off and locked myself in my mom's car after he started yelling at me for being rude to my mom when I told her to sit in the backseat. I just assumed they were all gay with each other on those ships because later I told him he was a homo. Not that I don't like gays, but because he was so homophobic growing up and told me to get off him once when I tried to hug him.

I think he had to ride on a ship to get to WWII in the South Pacific? And probably to get back.

Sea bees rode on ships called troop transports to get to the area where they are needed. A lot of boxing matches were conducted on board ships for crew entertainment. These boxing matched were referred to as "smokers". Some times when a couple crew members have an beef with each other that leads to a fight, The Master At Arms or their Chief will have them put on the gloves and settle there disagreements in the ring.

HUH? What does one have to do with the other?

Yeah, the Navy has a long history of holding boxing matches.
No, the Sea-Bees NEVER served on ANY sea fairing vessel. They are totally shore bound!!
So if your Grandpa told you he was a Sea-Bee and then said he served on a ship, he's lieing!

As far as the whole "homo" gay thing...You're just full of Bee's wax!
Yeah, sailors make a lot of gay oriented jokes, but they aren't all gay. Or haven't you heard of the whole "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy?
Do you know what they used to do to homosexuals BEFORE DADT?

They used to kick them out with a dishonorable discharge!
They couldn't get jobs with companies who had government contracts, they couldn't go into public service...their lives were ruined becuase of this blatently homophobic policy!!

some people have a hard time showing their feelings and can be offensive...you should show a little more respect for the people older than you, like your mother and your grandfather. There is a thing called "talking with people" and then there is "talking at people". you will have a more successful relationship with these people is you talk WITH them and not AT them.
