i seen a sight with some compression programs but don't know which type I need. i will be copying movies.

The movies are already in compressed form and it is not worth recompressing a movie only to gain a few megabytes.

You can search on the net about compression algorithms to find out which algorithm has the best multimedia compression, but as I said, it is not worth it.

a program called "any dvd" it automatically compresses it

Try NXPLite. I heard it is far better than winzip or rar and it compresses jpegs and avi files.

I use anyDVD to decode, and cloneDVD to compress and copy.
Works great for me
