I am breeding Indian Ringnecks. The female has laid her eggs. A couple of days ago I found a cracked egg on the bottom of the cage. Why would she do this?

there r alot of reason's and being a breeder you need to know this information ecspecially if you only breed this one type of bird. the enviroment is one, if she does not know what she is doing it could take a few times before she figure's it out, she sense's something is wrong with the baby inside or nothing is inside the egg in the first place. is she understress is the other birds in the room stressing her out or r u accidently stressing her out checking on the eggs 2 much. If this info has not helped. check out breeder's in your area that deal with ringnecks and see if they might be able to help you . good luck

She probably rejected it because it was not fertile or just a plain rotten egg birds will do this just like dogs will kill & sometimes eat their babies if something is wrong with them..

Because she knows which ones are fertile and those that arent. She will also throw them out to go down and eat them later for more calcium intake.

maybe she just hasn't gotten the hang of it yet, sometimes birds take several tries before they get the idea and do it right all the way through to hatching, just be patient
