The scripture teaches that our hair is our veil in the presence of the Lord - I don't know why women decided they could start cutting their hair off or not covering their head if they were going to have it short - but when they did, it went over big time - I personally still wear my hair long and I don't wear it up in a bun - that's not a covering either. Yeah, I get a little warm, but how long am I there to worship God - I do wear a hat for funerals and weddings still and gloves - at 42, I still think some things ought to still be sacred and traditionally handled. When I pray and praise God in worship at home, I don't worry about my hair - as I'm not in public - and he gave the example of the publican and the sinner praying on the corner - the one lifted his hands and made loud ados, and the other one beat on his chest and bowed his head in humility - so I figure my private prayer life is to be between the Lord and I, but at church, I am to be like the sinner, humbled.

I believe that it was written to the Church that was meeting at that time. Our culture has changed since that time, but we can still learn from the scriptures and apply them to our lives today. I believe that men and women should dress modestly and that we should live a balanced life. That we should not focus in on just a few doctrines. I believe that women should not become obsessed with their makeup, their hair, and jewelry. These things can become distractions during Church. Our focus should be on setting a climate so that we can learn what God has for us without unnecessary distractions. We should not enforce our values on other people though. We should only judge ourselves because we are at all different levels with God. This can become a legalistic battle that hurts fellow would be Christians who are trying to do what is right without having a solid footing in their faith. What maybe permissible for one, will not be permissible for another. The Bible teaches us to be moderate in all things and that this is a fruit of the Spirit.

Also, if we would enforce this head covering doctrine, we might lull people into a false sense of security, that if they do these things, that they will have salvation in their works instead of the grace and mercy of God.

I have went to many Churches that still practice this. In the day's of the Bible it was more because of the way the laws were handed down by God to Moses. It was a sign of purity and showing that the man is head of the Church so is the bride to the Church . It showing humility and honor, But some do still practice, mostly Pentecostal. But today the law is a guide to Grace

I don't think what Paul is saying in those verses are to be taken as instruction, but as an example of how traditions get in the way of what God really wants to do. Taking the whole chapter into context, I think he is saying that women need to respect their husbands as God has placed them in an authoritive position over their wives. He says that the tradition that men should not cover their heads and women should came from the idea of a mutual respect. Later on he talks about women's hair being the covering on their heads, etc.

It is an archaic custom still kept in some very religious countries like Italy and South America. The early Christian Fathers cautioned women to cover themselves when attending church services to prevent men from being distracted by their beauty as
a church is not the place to display women's beautiful figures and face. That was hundreds of years ago. Men are supposed to be evolved creatures now! Hah we hope!.

womens must have covering to their heads because according to the bible:

But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

I Corinthians 11:15

for what?

For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

I Corinthians 11:10

I beleive the hair acts as sort of an antenna to God's energy. Since we are bio-electro-chemical in nature, perhaps the reason lies in there. It's possible that the longer hair in women tunes to another frequency than the shorter hair in men who follow the teachings. Perhaps the covering helps adjust the wavelength so that those with longer hair can tune in to God's Spirit. The covering is only required while speaking, so perhaps it has to do with the speed at which you can receive God's communications.

rxqueen♥ †,
Not only that, but they better shut up!

I'M JUST KIDDING!

I think that Paul was spreading a little culture in those parts of the Bible. I really don't think women were on the average, educated in thsoe days. I also think that they might have interrupted his message a time or two with a question at inappropriate times. Hence the keep them silent passage.

I believe it was only for that day and time when women were allowed to pray and prophesied in the public but I do love hats and love to see beautiful women dressing up with matching color hats. In my opinion, having a head full of hair represents that scripture because a woman's hair is her glory and covering. 1 Cor. 11:15
