If the name on your ticket matches the name on your passport, you could still use the old passport. However, if you are also trying to collect frequent flier miles, the name on the account must also match the name on the ticket.
I believe you will get a new passport for the name change, just as you typically do for a driver's license. If you don't want to lose the stamps, you can book travel overseas in the name on your current passport, or if you're willing to pay for a new one, I know someone who claimed that they "lost" the old one. I believe that you have to sign a statement attesting to the fact & that you will send it back if it is ever located.

Ok, yes you do need to change your documents for travel, that is a given. If you have just gotten married and are going to be traveling for your Honeymoon, or are traveling within a few weeks a copy of the merrage certificate to show the change as legal will do. I believe that you have a few month grace period to get the changes processed sine it can take some time to get changes processed.
Go to your local office to get the passport updated and reissued, they should allow you to keep to old documents when you get the new ones, kind of like your drivers license, after morking it as an invalid document.
A good site to check is www.travel.state.gov

Yes, you have to change your name in your passport. In Singapore, I had my name changed and the Immigration just used a page in my passport to update since my passport has not reach the expiry date yet. Thes rest of the documents you have to update which is very important is from the banks.

Yes you should change you're passport.
However....
If you have traveled much outside the country, you're passport is the only form of ID you need. If you have a vaild passport, it is the best form of ID you can have. No other ID is needed to verify you're identity.
I have also been married recently, and my wife and I have traveled with her old passport and have had no problems. Once it expires, we are going to change it, but why waste 50 bucks before its going to expire?

Methinks so. In this day & age of heightend security- not much is left to chance anymore. And better to take care of the hassle NOW- than when you're waiting on line #3 & the guy asks you, "Do you have proof that this is who you are?"
