Thats it. Different programs for different fields but go for Windows Vista which will deliver you probably, the best experience.

Well, I understand you :)
But I have several lovely programs for different tasks.
Nero for burning CDs and DVDs.
Total Commander for browsing and organising folders/files.
Light Alloy for playing videos.
BDV Notepad for editing plain text files.
Microsoft Word (yesm I really like it) for editing complex documents.
And Firefox for browsing Internet.
Other software that I use are not so brilliant.

two programs for making and editing drawings and photos
they still work on win xp and i still use them a lot
