does anyone know if i can transfer plates to a different car with current proof of registration lost..i have sticker on plates...and registration from last few years...

Well yes you are able to transfer the plate. In Alabama however, if you still own the car your transferring the tag from you will have to retag that car. As long as your name is on the car you can go into the DMV and get a reprint of the registration for your records as well. Not sure how some states are but, thats how we do it.

Yes, in most states, it's pretty straight forward. Bring in your current plates/registration sticker and your old registrations and they'll issue you a new sticker with your desired plates.

They can look up your registration with proper proof of who you are, but may charge you a fee for the xfer.

Be sure to bring your proof of insurance if you're in one of those states.

No, but you can go to the DMV and get a copy of the current registration for not very much - usually around $5.

No. The license plate stays with the car.

Unless things have changed, in CA you can do it only if your plates are personalized. If they were standard issue, they are always linked to the original vehicle.

you have to take it into the office. plates can't just be switched - they are connected to the vehicle they were issued to.
