I started thinking about this from a couple conversations some friends and have had. I've known a couple pedophiles and I and these two friends seem to think that most pedophiles can never be really cured...they just repress their urge to molest little kids.
So my guess is that for every 1000 pedophiles out there (acting out their urges or not), there must be at least one ex-pedo who has done whatever is has taken for him/her to finally be free of the need to molest children.
Do you know anyone like this? Or did you read a story or book about this anywhere?

Sinm0123 - you have the best answer so far, because of the research, I would be interested in reading about that. I do not believe that homosexuality and pedophiles belong in the same category. I don't see anything wrong with two consenting gay people, but between an adult and a vulnerable child is a whole other thing.
My belief is that anyone can be "cured"/healed if they dig deep enough. Just because it's never been done doesn't make it automatically impossible. I was just wondering if anyone out there has really been cured.
Death is not a cure, in my book. It's revenge on your part. We humans sure like to see others suffer...
Don't get me wrong, I think pedophiles are among to most sick and twisted souls alive and their lives must be pure hell. It's not sympathy I'm feeling for them but hope they can lead normal lives without controlling any urges and not having sex with kids anymore.

I've had many debates with different people regarding homosexuality and whether or not homosexuality can be cured and such. From browsing the internet, I had come upon some site full of men who supposedly went from homosexual to heterosexual(can't recall the site-sorry:/). I'm not sure if this site is real, but IF it IS real... This means that homosexuals can be cured, and if homosexuality can be cured, so can pedophiles. -(I'd at least like to think so)
I've heard of straight people turning gay. If that's possible, I'm sure gay people can become straight.
It may be the same with pedophiles.
I don't know of any healed pedophiles... but it's a big world, and I would think that there must be at LEAST ONE person who has been cured/free of it.

Actually, just the opposite, most things I have read about research done about pedophiles suggests that it's a sexual preference and would be as possible to "cure" as homosexuality. I think that some have successfully been able to surpress their sexual urges either through medication or through therapy, but I haven't seen any kind of proof that the impulse to molest children has successfully been eliminated in anyone or can be for that matter.

Instead of the word repress it would be more accurate to say control their own urges.
Like any addiction the person would really want to quit on their own and seek help to learn the methods of self control.And keep practicing them.
