I HATE it when some people bring their babies and little children (age 5 and under, that is) to the movies with them? I HATE THAT!!!!!! Babies cryin' and other little children talking and making a whole bunch of noise while other people are enjoying the movie! Can't they hire a babysitter or something? If they can't afford to hire one, can't they AT LEAST find any relatives that can watch the kids while the parents go to the movies so that EVERY ONE can have a pleasant experience at the movies? BTW, I DO NOT hate children! I just hate it when they bring their kids to the movies knowing that they are going to make a bunch of noise! IT'S IRRITATING!!!!!!!!!

Lynn, OBVIOUSLY, you do not completely understand what I mean. I can understand that your kids may be excited. HOWEVER, if your kids are being loud enough to disturb others from enjoying a movie, you should ask them quietly to remain quiet during the rest of the movie or just whisper enough to where HARDLY anybody can hear them.

To Wise Old Man: So, what you're basically saying to me is that you don't give a damn whether other people are ACTUALLY trying to have a good movie experience or not, do you? YOU may not mind having some children and babies make a lot of noise while you're at the movies, but I DO!!! Parents who KNOW that their children and babies are going to make a lot of noise in the movie theatre should AT LEAST a close friend to watch them so they won't have to ruin everyone else's movie experience!

I agree, I hate it when parents bring younger children to the movies. Especially movie that are not age appropriate. My kids are in there teens now, they feel the same way I do. When my children were young and could not remain seated and quiet for the length of a movie, I would not take them to the movie. It's called respect.

As a mother of two young children (2 1/2 years and 13 months), I would like to know this myself. I HAVE never and WOULD never bring my kids with me to the movies. I'm very fortunate that my sons' maternal grandparents are nuts over them, and relish every babysitting opportunity they can get. :) If it was a matter of not finding a sitter, I would just wait until I could find one, or wait for the movie to come out on video. There are certain freedoms people have to give up when they become parents...and going to the movies at the last minute is one of those freedoms. Not saying you can't go, but it might be a while before you can.
I don't get to the movies very often (although I did just see Talladega Nights...LMAO), but when I do go, I rarely see (hear, rather!) crying babies. It seems that when they start up, the parents would take them to the lobby to calm them down. After doing this several times, they've missed a good deal of the movie, so why even bother going in the first place?
I feel especially sorry for newborns/infants. Movie theaters are SO loud, and I think it would terrify a newborn to no end to have to constantly sit through noise that loud.
I'm sorry you're had this experience, but please remember...there ARE parents out there (like me!) who refrain from taking their young children to the movies. We're not ALL idiots. ;)

right on - I hate it too. It's not just unfair on us but also on the child because some of the movies are not for kids. I was disgusted when I went to see a late showing of the butterfly effect and a 3 year old and a five year old were sitting in the row in front of me. That stuff should not be seen by kids. I was irritated at how many babies and toddlers where dragged in to see The passion of the Christ.....those poor kids will be having nightmares for months and they were crying through the movie!

some parents like to take their children along wherever they go but to the movies i agree its a bit too much..... but i bet even they don't enjoy the movie to the fullest. u know kids are sweet but they are not robot and even parents cannot control their emotions.
however, i think parents should think seriously about hiring a babysitter and not disturb other people coz we pay money and time to watch a movie. why disturb people?

Because they don't understand or don't care that it bothers you.
I took my 1st child to a few movies, because I couldn't afford a babysitter & went for the air conditioning, which I couldn't afford either. but, I ended up missing a good deal of the movie because he got bored & started fussing. So, instead I spent ~20 yrs not going to movies because I had young children & couldn't afford babysitters.

I bring all my children to the movie with me. Ages 4, 5 and 12. I bring them because they like to see movies, just like we do. We usually do it as a family fun event. Not everyone can afford a babysitter, nor has relatives to dump the kids off at. Some of us like to include our children. If my kids do make noise it is because they are excited. Deal with it. They don't all jump, hoot and holler. They just enjoy themselves and there is nothing wrong with that.
Besides if you don't bring your children out into social situation, how are they ever going to learn how to act in thos places. Parents and children have as much right to be in theaters and "restaurant" as snobby people do.
Now, to give you a Little credit. I do know that there are some out there that let there kids yell and run down the aisle. Even I don't like that. But it is irresponsible parenting. Not the kids.
BTW-you don't exactly sound like a child lover.
Sorry to be so negative, but you had it coming.

Agreed with Crabby and Rythm... They're inconsiderate assholes.
But you can complain to the management. They will give you free movie passes and if you're lucky, they'll kick out or even BAN the assholes.
Me, I think I'd just get off my *** and give them a piece of my mind.

In that case, ask for a raincheck from the theater because of what you just said. Most will give you one. Go to late showings too.

My baby brother used to sleep through movies. It's annoying, but maybe they just couldn't find someone to watch the kid. It's better than leaving the kid home alone.

I'm not sure. But why do some people have it so good in life that a noisy baby in a theatre is their biggest complaint?
Actually, I do know why people bring their babies and children to the movies. Because they can.
Any other locations you wish to stake as baby-free? The library? The mall? Anyplace outside their homes?
