An iPod is an mp3 player. Your daughter will download music off of a file sharing program (unless she will buy each song for about a dollar) and load it into the iPod. Depending on which model you get, you can also have videos and pictures.
In my opinion, I think there are MUCH better mp3 players than iPods. My personal favourite is iRiver. For about the same price you can get a way nicer product that does alot more stuff. But, I think if people have an iPod they are considered "cool". It is a cool thing to have.
Good luck! And you can always ask a RadioShack or other electronics store about mp3 players.

Well.... and ipod , or MP3 player,is a portable music player made by Apple Computers, that works like a regular computers hard drive, yet its down to a laptop computer size. you can store thousands of songs , and pictures on an ipod. Apple sells these "ITUNES" music cards you can purchase, but for the time being, you can add your OWN cd's u have now, onto the IPOD. They can be rather expensive, so. do your thinking. There are other brands out there you can buy. Other MP3 players use actual memory chips inside the player that store the music, rather than using a hard drive like the ipod. There is a wide variety of brands and song storage capabailities, so ask your self how many songs you would like to store on the MP3 Player, b4 you get one.
oh, MP3, is the language, or music file that a computer uses to play a song.

An ipod is a brand of music player by Apple computer that holds music in the form of compressed data, often called MP3s or AAC.
It is possible to convert music CDs you might own into these MP3s, using a computer, to download onto the ipod.
Although there is no direct charge, if you are using an ipod by apple it comes with software for your computer called iTunes. This software, amoungst other things like sorting your music into lists, allows you to buy songs legally (in the US for $0.99 per song). You can purchase songs either by credit card or a Gift card you can get at supermarkets. (which can sometimes make a good present, or reward)

No extra charges...it's just likea cd player except they can hold hundreds, sometimes thousands of songs. Some ipods can even play videos on them. The music is put on your ipod by taking it off already downloaded songs on your computer which can either come from the internet or by cd's you already own. The only extra cost you would possible see is if your daughter plans on buying music off the internet, but i wouldn't worry to much about that unless you plan on giving her your credit card number.
