I can not believe the cynical, rude, selfish, and name-calling responses I got. Everyone JUMPED on me becuase I said why can't you give $1 to someone other than yourselves. A reputable organization, charity, in your community, even your church.
I am so depressed right now.. Am I totally alone in this? I help others every single second I get. Why do we live in such a selfish world? People in other countries are living on less than $15 a YEAR and there are so many rich people in our country who don't give a damn. $1 could help change someones life.
There are charities where you can pay for a new school, a training center for women to get jobs, a chicken, cow, or goat to produce food and income for famlies. ( All in other countries ).
Why does NO ONE CARE ?

You are right. People have no idea what's going on in this world. A few years back I had the oportunity to visit Ethiopia, to search for a good charity-project. I had gotten a little financial luck, and decided to try and do something good with that money.
Seeing what I saw there changed my world. Since then I try to make it a goal for myself to donate 30% of my income to charity. And sometimes I feel even guilty abt spending the rest of my money on myself. There is a lot of hell on this planet. There truly are people living on 15$ a year.
I'm glad there are people like you, who at least have their heart set on changing the world for the better a little. The answers you got are just gross and make me sick.
To one of the above answerers: It's a fairy-tale that the USA donates so much to the third-world countries. That's just numbers. In percentage per capita the USA doesn't even make it into the top 20 of the countries of the rich western world. Countries like Sweden, Japan, Holland, Switserland, Norway, Denmark, France, Germany donate a lot more per capita. It's nice for you to be proud of the USA, but when it comes to charity there is not much reason to be proud of the USA.

Many care, but as money has been made the top priority anymore...people are more stingy then they should be.
Partly maybe these days people may also feel less secure in what the future holds. Too many losing their jobs, health care being dropped from them, gas prices and other costs getting worse, pay low enough a lot of people are living pay check to pay check and some with government assistance, the fear of possible sickness from a potentially devastating virus, terrorists that could attack your area, fear of more hurricanes, flooding, etc... I think if we lived in a more stable time people might be more giving.
I can't afford to give much myself, I couldn't even afford to leave my parent's home as of yet and I'm 27... But I do give some to a few select causes. I give each year in the form of money in honor of a loved one who is gone, and have twice donated my hair to Locks-of-Love and will again once it grows back out. It's not money, but it's literally giving of myself which I feel is just as good.

I do donate but I place my priorities :
1.) Charity that help those that are in trouble not because of their own actions. (Birth defects.etc ) <-- Donate many of the $ I had in my pocket.
2.) Those that got into trouble in the 1st place due to their own actions. ( Taking drugs, Heavily injured while fighting.etc ) <-- Still donate some
3.) Those that are healthy but only lacking in items like financial needs & emotional needs ( build a new school that provide free education for low income people.etc ) <-- almost donate none
You could see I place the healthiness of the body as the most important criteria to donate or not because it is the most important to me. With an unhealthy body all are almost useless. That why the 3rd don't get my special attention at all since they are already luckier ( in terms of body health ) than the top 2 choice.

LESS than $15 a year!!!!!!?!?!?! I should move there. These people have it made.
I have to work so damm hard to get low income.
when it comes to the decent charities, how can I tell which ones are just christian fronts so as to funnel money to sponsor christian terrorism in other nations??? You didnt think that went on did ya??
Charities are BIG business nowadays.
I help people DIRECTLY.
Although the cost of living is too high, I cant afford to have a life and help others out at the same time. I will leave that to the rich folk.

"I can not believe the cynical, rude, selfish, and name-calling responses I got. Everyone JUMPED on me becuase I said why can't you give $1 to someone other than yourselves"
Actually you are magnifying this situation in your mind. I looked at the responses and there were many reasons given like not having even a dollar to spare, not trusting charities to use the money correctly, people who did donate, someone who donated their time instead of money, etc.
You obviously have a heart for giving. In the Bible it calls this one of the gifts of the Spirit. Not everyone has that gift and you shouldn't let it get you down but instead should just be faithful to use the gift God has given you and don't judge other people who don't operate in the same area you do.
What if I got mad and depressed because people didn't want to read the Bible and share God's truth with everyone like I do? It wouldn't do any good, it would just rob me of the joy I get from using the gifts God has given me.

Some people really don't have an extra dollar to give. I think a lot of people are so tired of being hit up for money for this charity or that charity. Then you hear about all these "charity" scams and people don't trust anymore.

LOL!!! I can't stop laughing at the responses you got to your questions. They sound like sharks, I don't know why they got so offended or why they felt the need to tell you that THEY DO NOT HAVE AN EXTRA DOLLAR. They probably don't have an extra dollar because they keep repeating it over and over... the Universe is always listening...
Hey guys! Chill out you! no need to go ballistic. :D
Try reading "The Game of Life and How to Play it", that should help you get an extra dollar or two.

You were depressed from a little rejection? that's not good.
I give both time and money to community causes but I know some people who just give money because they are tied up in doing other stuff.
I want to be generous... I think the world needs more generous people.

Well you see people are rude and selfish now. The time for our Lord to return is getting closer. The bible teaches us to give to the poor. But now people will push you out of line to be first. They don't have time to wate for you. Even if all they have to do is go home and watch TV. So do as our Lord told us to do . Give to the poor.
