I just spoke with my mum about this for advice, and she said that I am supposed to add water to it. I believe her, but I don't think that adding water to it will be enough to solve the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Heavens! How are you trying to cook it? Is it on the cob or in kernels? You're not just throwing cobs on the gas burner, are you?? If what you want is corn on the cob, I'd say boiling is your only option unless you can grill it outdoors. If you can do that, you can leave the husks on and strip them off afterwards, or you can peel them back and let the kernels blacken a little bit on the grill--some people love corn this way. Just don't burn the house down, OK pal?

Your Mom is right. But the most important thing you need to do is use a very low temperture setting on your stove eye. You have to stir constantly and let it cook just till it thickens and is hot. as soon as you et it hot remove it immediately and pour it up into a bowl for serving and enjoying. If you were cooking field corn you would add a couple of tablespoons of self-rising flour or cornstarch along with the water to thicken it. And of course don't forget to put about a half stick of butter in also if you are cooking a good mess. The butter is called for with either kind of corn. With the field corn you will want to salt and pepper to taste.
When I say field corn make sure you get the eatin kind and not the kind grown for feed and silage. There is a big difference believe me. The feed and silage type has no flavor and is not fit for human consumption( it's way to starchy).
I am assuming you are cooking fresh out of the husk corn that you cut off the cob yourself. I have been cooking all my life and my Grandmother taught me how to cook. Feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Are you cooking it on the cob or from a can or frozen from the bag? On the cob you need a BIG pot of boiling water. From a can you should be able to heat it in the liquid from the can and maybe a half a can of water. Frozen corn needs to be simmered in water that just covers it.

Make sure the water is enuf to cover the corns in the pot, and keep the fire not too big when cooking the corns. And of coz watch the water level when cooking.

If you asked your mother for advice but didn't like the answer she gave then I'm afraid that's your problem. How are you cooking your corn? A minute or so in a microwave is good.

If you are cooking corn on the cob, you have to cook in a pot of water. It will not burn if it has water in it.
