I am a former active duty army officer who grew up in the San Diego area as my father retired as a navy Commander in San Diego.
I have lived in California 25-30 years, most of it in SD. I will never move back to California (too much traffic, smog and people) but if I ever would, the only place I would move would be San Diego. I lived inland from the 32nd Street Naval Base / Balboa Naval Hospital area where my dad worked in the suburbs or El Cajon and La Mesa. I was 35 minutes from the beach and 90 minutes from the mountains. The air was clean (enough) that I use to run marathons. If you wanted, you can reach Mexico in an hour or less and beautiful Balboa Park with it's Mexican traditions without going over the boarder. There are various and numerous sightseeing opportunities in and around San Diego....many of them free or for a small entry fee (national parks, etc). They have a great planetarium there!
The temperature year round may not be 73 degees every day...but just about. People there actually but on the heat in there homes if the temperature drops to 65 degess!
I can't say enough about the great place SD can be to live. But it is not all rosey. As with all major cities, there is crime (not like LA) and bad parts of the city that you can simply avoid.
And in regard to restrictions to a personal life there I imagine you mean in relation to the military (USN, correct?). I have know several naval and USMC personal that have been stationed there and none ever mentioned any restrictions. Well, off course there are those places put off limits but that goes for any town with a military base.
Please feel free to contact me by e-mail (by clicking my user ID of course) if I may provide any other information. Enjoy your time in San Diego.

I was active duty in San Diego...it's a pretty good, navy town. The typical tourist traps for unknowing, naive military types as anywhere else. Restrictions though? Not really.

AGR(energetic preserve/reserve) is really plenty diverse from energetic responsibility. you artwork complete time for the reserve or preserve unit you're assigned to. even with the undeniable fact that, you also favor to substantiate there's a slot open and exceptionally a number of the positions require you to be an E-5(sergeant) or more effective. There are also in ordinary words some slots open in accordance to unit. As for CIA, i'd flow with the others and wager intelligence or something like which will be a good guess.

Personally, I have never been to the island. But remember that is where Air Force personnel are sent; typically the Air Force is hundreds if not thousand of miles from any real combat zone ie. Iraq or Afghanistan. Also the Air Force quality of life is really great with restrictions to a minimum. If your boyfriend hasnt called or written you maybe he found himself a hot Air Force lady.

You mean Diego Garcia.....
I was supposed to go there back in 04 but 3 weeks from when I was supposed to leave out they changed it and sent me to Kyrgyzstan....
With the stuff that I looked up on it the island seems pretty nice. From what I was told you can go fishing, snorkeling, and all that sort of stuff on your off duty time. You will enjoy it.
Are you at a B-52 base. I was stationed at Minot when they were going to send me.

Hey ya, im 21 at the moment and ive been active since i was 21, wasnt too keen to join but so glad i did. There are obvious restrictions to your personal life ie. T.O.D's, but i found that i had a way better personal life after i joined. But in saying that its not everyones cup of tea. But the friends you make and the things you get to do and see, outway any negatives.
