It's a common sweet and creamy dessert combo. I make sweet potato pie with a broiled mini-marshmallow topping for Thanksgiving. I like a baked pie better for dessert than just baking sweet potatos with marshmallows. For just baked sweets in a baking dish, I like to make them with butter, orange juice, brown sugar, spices and pecans. We eat this as a sweet/savory side dish with the Turkey instead of as a dessert.

I usually cook sweet potatoes with brown sugar and butter, so adding marshmallows is not at all strange. I wouldn't consider it a dessert though.

sweet potatoes are awful, but marshmallows are great--especially when you are out side and can roast them over an open fire. I used to really enjoy that when I went camping. Yes--- very common at Thanksgiving.

Love it! Beat the sweet potatoes w/ raw egg, cinnamon, & brown sugar. Bake til done, then take out of oven, add marshmallows, then back in oven til marshmallows are melted & brownish. Have it every T-giving.

It is SOO good, you won't hardly believe it's real. If you prepare it rightly, it tastes like a half meal/half desert.
To be honest it all depends on you. But, I wouldn't recommend it as a desert. Thanksgiving deserts are usually pies, like pumpkin or cherry, or come kind of cake. This dish should be an entree, like mashed potatoes.

It's really good. However, for Thanksgiving my family has a sweet potato casserole with a candied walnuts on top, which I think is better.

it is very common. if you bake the sweet potato until it is soft, then you can split it open and stuff it with a marshmallow, butter, brown sugar, and chopped pecan mixture. then bake them a little longer until the stuffing melts and gets golden brown. yummy. otherwise, they are not that great.
