Italy is not in a position to be percieved as a world policy maker,as are France, England, and U.S.A..
Italy in a leadership position should be less likely to further provoke animosity from the countries at war.

The Israelis might be aggressive, racist, and genocidal terrorists but they are not stupid. They know that every couple of years or so italy's government collapses, and a new one takes its place. They are betting, and not without justification, that all this Italian governmental musical chairs will lead to ineptitude and lack of any sense of direction when it comes to Italian positioning in Lebanon.
