An astigmatism (what you meant) is: "a distortion of the image on the retina caused by irregularities in the cornea or lens."

Well, we really see and experience with our minds/brains rather than our eyes. So my mind is all that can make such judgements. You seem to be touching on the issue of whether there is an objective quality to beauty beyond the measure of what society/social groups label as beauty? Whether it is purely in the eye of the beholder is a complex problem. So many problems ultimately seem to be rooted in the larger problem of whether we live in a meaningless, godless and spontaneous universe. If such is the case can beauty be anything but in the eye of the beholder? Does this mean beauty is nothing? I do not believe that this does mean beauty does not exist, but I don't know if there is a clear answer to what is beautiful. The problem is also what is beauty? The concept of perfection is not one that is physically demonstrated in the material world, yet it is a concept that exists because it is conceived of by humans. Mathematics is the only way we can understand the principle of and envisage a "perfect" object. Perhaps beauty can be defined as that which we identify as resembling or imitating perfection. Everything in our universe is of course flawed, which seems to be the price of physical, organic existence. We are all mortal and susceptible to illness, injury and all the irregularities that make us unique. Unless we revert to a metaphysical absolute, such as Plato's forms or ideas, it is still hard to see how beauty is anything but interpretation and merely a matter of opinion, and a product of socio-historical factors. However, maybe we can conceive of the individual's private "world of forms" in a sense. The private, and lonely world of the individual mind is a place where metaphysical ideas can in a sense exist. The impossible concept of perfection is after all one that each of us holds in our minds. We perhaps make individual, instinctive judgements about beauty, that are also sometimes impaired by external forces and influences. This is evident from how different societies and cultures have had radically different views on what is aesthetically pleasing. This could be atoned with the notion that we cannot in our minds create a clear image of perfection and beauty, just as I can only vaguely imagine the perfect circle - the image in my mind is still physical in a sense so it is shackled by the flaws and imprecision of the physical world. The identification of beauty is therefore also doomed to be an imprecise art. I hope that made at least a little bit of sense and helps with your inquiry.

Maybe an eye doctor can explain it better but I'll give it a try.

Normally when you look at a line it looks just as sharp when it is horizontal as when it is vertical. And when you need glasses, the corrective lens has the same degree of correction regardless of whether you are measuring on a horizontal axis versus a vertical axis.

But if you have astigmatism a line may look sharp if it is vertical, but then blurry if it is horizontal (or vice versa).

So with astigmatism, you need a lens that has more correction in one axis than the other.

Actually, that's an "astigmatism." It means that objects are blurred at any distance. The cornea, lens, or both are shaped so that images aren't focused sharply on the retina.

It's one of the most basic kinds of eye problems. The others are nearsightedness, or myopia, where close objects appear sharp but those in the distance are blurred; and farsightedness, or hyperopia, where distant objects can be seen clearly but objects up close are blurred.

An astigmatism refers to an irregularity in the shape of your eye that often distorts the images that are cast on the retina. If you've decided to wear contacts, you would have to get the ones that are pricier to correct an astigmatism (shape of the lens).

astigmatism of the eye is a description of the shape of the eye. Generally in an astigmatism the eye is somewhat shaped like a football.

Most people believe that once they are diagnosed with some vision problem and start wearing eye glasses or contact lenses to correct them, they will have to do so for life in order to see better. Those who want a permanent solution to improve eyesight typically resort to Lasik or other corrective eye surgeries. But you you can also improve your vision without surgery and can see perfectly well without using eyeglasses or contact lenses. You can check here to know how https://tr.im/73ed3

its called astigmatism, and it means that the lense of your eye is shaped differently so you don't see as well as you should. eyeglasses can take care of the problem and so can contacts but if you wear contacts you have to buy special pairs especially for astigmatisms you can also have laser eye surgery to repair the problem but you need to have a special surgery for astigmatisms. Astigmatisms will never go away but they also will not get worse.

well from what i know, the eyes are shaped like footballs and the way the light or your vision in general hits the back of your eye differently than say an eye ball that is round, well something like that

Astigmatism is where the eyeball is not round causing the eye to not focus correctly. It is now sugically correctable with Lasik or radial K procedures.
