ok. when the chicken was done(it was fried) my mom told me to take it out and put it on the table. so i put it a little near the edge not paying attention. i come back in the kitchen 5 minutes later and i saw the dog with the chicken in her mouth. she ate a little more than half and the majority of the bone. shes a pitbul so she is a pretty big dog.the bone was cooked pretty well and seemed to be pretty soft, and she seems to be fine but we are still keeping our eyes on her. should i be worried or do you think she will be ok?

please help me. im kinda worried.

;),dont worry, your dog would be fine, she is a healthy dog, i dont think chicken or its bone would give trouble, when i was younger ive seen my grandmother feeding her dog bones, and the little cat digs in too, they love chicken, weel its weel cooked so nothign to be worried about, my grandmoter told me, home cooked food are better still that canned and those outside food, eeven the dogs in our house we give them pakced food a little and the night meal we gave them home cooked meal, dont worry she will be alrite, but if youre worried, let her run around the yard or a garden let her digest the bones, and let her drink alot of water when she does her bussiness, she would be even better, but if you se eher lying in a corner or she is not very active anymore, in a way lazing around or having difficulties in moving then it would be better if you bring here to a vet, and next time be careful, but if she is fine, just throw her a little ball and let her run along, she'll be happy, she would be very happy if she knows ure worried of her, give her a little pat on the head, dont worry ;)she'll be fine

You're right to worry, and watch her. But unfortunately that's about all you can do at this point. If she got it all down then part of the problem is solved, as it didn't choke her. The next hurdle is the bones getting through her digestive system without puncturing anything. Keep an eye on her, when she goes to do her business, watch that too, to make sure she's not in pain.

That can food idea was a good one, it does make them poop more, so it might move it through her system faster. Likely, she'll be alright. Dogs get into stuff they're not supposed to ALL the time, and live to do it again! Check with your vet in the morning and see if he has anything else to tell you.

Oh, btw, I wouldn't try that white bread idea a few posts back, bread expands when it gets in there, just doesn't seem like a good idea, it soaks up all the liquid, too.

I'm no expert, but I think as carnivores, dogs have been eating all the birds they've been able to get ahold of for about the last 20,000 years. Some people think the best diet for modern canines have is the BARF diet, which is an acronym for Raw Food And Bones. Oh wait, that would be R-FAB, which isn't a folkys, catchy phrase. I think they even let their dogs eat raw bones under the assumption that the intestinal damage that bones shards do is from when they become brittle from cooking. Now, if you were worried about any humans you know eating other animals - then I'd say it would make sense to be concerned about how long rotting flesh can stay in their colon before it starts infecting the surrounding internal tissues. But dogs? ... Nah, their intestines are short -- meat-adapted.

chicken is fine for dogs, it's the bones that you have to worry about. Nothing you can really do. Some dogs do fine with bones and some don't. You should really never feed a dog chicken bones. Just watch his bowl movements for a while watch for blood. He should be okay since he got them down. If you see blood in the stool than you should get him to the vet right away.
Read this article you'll find it helpful hopefully.

Pits have great teeth and jaws. Mine is only 1/2 Pit and she demolishes everything she gets her paws on. So yours should be fine if she chewed it up good, and the chicken was well cooked. It's just that chicken bones CAN splinter and cause problems. So if she seems to be doing fine - no need to panic - just don't let chicken with bones be a staple in her diet.

If he swallowed, not chewed, he will probably be ok. You might see the bones coming out the other end in the next day or so. Any sign of blood in stool and you should run, not walk to your vet. In the future, try to not let him get them. Also, there is a way to make your dog throw up, would only work if done immediately after eating. Sounds gross, but I have done this with rescues under direction of vet.

ok let me say this!u should go to the vet for a good reason which is checking ur dog stomach and see if she really shewed well the bones just for be sure that she got no holes in her chest or in stomach and just to ur informations it s not usuall to let dogs eat bones often even the size of the dog was big there is some rules about that kind of bones but thx god the chicked was really fried and was cooked well so to be sure u just examine ur dog at a vet to scan his stomach and see if there is anything can be woried about in the future or not cos it'll never shown now if anything hurt or anything.
it is my personnal opinion and my expert also cos i've ben into raising pets whole my life so hope that helped u :).

I think you are doing the right thing to keep your eye on her. The pitbull breed have pretty strong jaws so she may have crushed the bone up pretty well. I would pay attention to her closely to make sure there is no discomfort - especially with the next 2-3 bowel movements.

I suggest you contact your vet as well - for piece of mind.

She is fine. My mom feeds her dogs a raw diet that includes raw chicken with the bone. The only thing I would be worried about is the fact that it was fried chicken and its very greasy. But the bones wont hurt her.

I bet she ate that chicken on PURPOSE!! hahaha.
anyway, everyone is right. Chicken bones are different than steak/porkchop bones. They splinter. So just keep an eye on her for the next few days. Bread is a good idea.

there must be a local pet emergency center that you can call for advice. But most of the time, they'd probably just induce vomiting and charge you a bunch. Keep an eye on her, but I think the biggest risk with chicken bones is that a dog can choke on them, and obviously yours didn't.
