My son is 3 and he was potty trained this summer for like 2 weeks straight when we were camping. He had no accidents and used the toilet everytime without even asking him too. When we came home he refused to use it and would hide when he had to go to the bathroom and do it in his pants. We have offered candy and special things but it is still not working. We had a much easier time with our first boy. What are we doing wrong???

I just wanted to let everyone know that he does not wear diapers, he wears underwear and then just messes them. He uses the toilet faithfully at day care. He just does not like it at home.

Potty training sucks no matter what the age of your "toddler". (Three years old and still in diapers! sheesh!) I say, just bite the bullet- no diapers anymore. Roll up your rugs. Keep junior in the kitchen if you have to or spend lots of time in the yard and take him to the toilet every hour or two. Plan to be house bound for at least a week. He's an old baby so it ain't gonna be easy because he has enough personality to resist you. So, roll up your sleeves and prepare to do battle with lots of pee and poo.
Good Luck. I don't envy you. But your tyke might surprise you. When given no option he might quickly tire of the battle and agree to use the toilet for the sake of his "social life" or activities (which you'll have to inevitably cancel during week...)

you are doing nothing wrong some kids are afraid of the toilet at home you may want to try the cherrio in the toilet and have him aim at it like a gun hitting a target and let him see daddy and big brother using the toilet so he knows what to do and keep trying to get him to go every half an hour or so maybe you can catch him when he has to go also give lots of praise when he does go to the potty and uses it good luck

this may sound silly but it is only an idea..... you said he was ok while camping ?? ok, get the little potty out, put plants all around it, just like when camping, and encourage him to go to the forrest and potty...... use fake plants of course...... go to the dollar store and buy the pots and flowers, ivys and put special treats in the plants..... birds, butterflys, bees, etc..... u can use cut out pictures for most of the animals... bears, squirells, any and all you can think of..... dont use them all at one time, change them after each time he goes, and that way he can explore while doing his thing..... then after about 2 weeks start taking the plants away, 1 at a time, and see how it goes from there....... good luck and God bless

My mother told me we were out of diapers, so I'd have to use the potty. I was a very precocious two year-old, and suggested she go to the store and get more. She said she called the store and they ran out. It seemed a logical and satisfactory explanation to me at the time. Worth a shot, anyway.

Treat him like a baby!!! Explain that if he acts like one, he'll be treated like one. I'm sure he wants the privileges of his older brother, etc. Also, if he goes to day care, make him wear a diaper there. Let his classmates LAUGH AT HIM. The embarassment will end the problem immediately.
