What is in a persons mind that drives them to murder women and children? When I read about how they were going to cook and eat their flesh, it makes me deathly sick to my stomach.

I just finished reading the news and there were at least 2 different stories of children being murdered. That's why I asked the question.

May I first ask why is this in the religion and spirituality section?
And to answer your question, its seems you're talking about cannibalistic murders with premeditated murder on their minds. Premeditated murder in this situation usually is caused my mental disease and possibly a traumatic childhood. Some may see the eating of another persons flesh as a good thing and not necessarily see the moral consequences of this.
Also, on a side note, funny how Christians think they are literally eating the flesh of Christ when they receive communion.

It's impulse and compulsion. Many serial killers have psychological disorders that may stem from their childhood. Killing and sometimes eating parts of a victim is usually no more wrong to them as eating a piece of chocolate cake would be to you.
You should read about Albert Fish. That man was so disturbed that when physiologists analyzed him, he did things that they had never heard of before. They had to created new disorders to label what he used to do.

A lot of hatred in the heart of the perpetrator. Usually a violent hatred towards their own mothers(such as in the case of Paul Bernardo).

The mind of a killer is incomprehensible to 'normal' people. Sociopaths and psychopaths don't have normal thoughts and feelings so don't even try to figure it out...I've tried and it gets me no where.

Could you stand in front of them, pointing a gun between their eyes and say you are incapable of redemption and I am willing to kill you to prevent your killing innocent people again then squeeze the trigger to blow a hole through their head?
