My dog's stomach will sometimes look bloated after meals, and he will be listless. This has been happening for a couple of weeks, however, and after he defecates he feels better and is his normal rowdy self. He eats slowly and few short meals. He is a 9 week old Golden. He is not interested in eating sometimes. Could this be bloat? Isn't that a sudden attack of gas? Anyone have any info? Thanks!

Try getting a bowl with adjustable height. This helps usually. If it doesn't maybe he needs a better dog food. Otherwise take him to the vet.

A GDV would have killes it by now!!! The stomach does not twist and untwist. It twists and dies killing the dog.
Make sure you are feeding a food with no corn. Some dogs will get excess gas from a high corn food. Then make sure the pup is not eating too fast. Ask the vet about using a anti-gas capsule. They are sometimes given in situations like that. Usually an anti-gas drop like you give babies.
Puppies frequently miss a meal or two here and there. That is very common and nothing to worry about.

If it was bloat and happened this often your dog would be dead. Bloat can kill a dog in minutes. Bloat usually happens when a dog is overheated and then gulps large amounts of water. Then his stomach will twist and you will only have minutes to get him to a vet. Never let your dog drink large amounts of water at one time especially after a long walk or exercise. Puppies belly's often look extended but 9 weeks in a very young puppy. Make sure you are feeding the correct food on a schedule and go to your regular vet appointments for a new puppy.

Yes, a dog can be bloated. Puppies in particular are often guilty of gulping down their food and water, causing them to be bloated, usually passing of gas (which might be happening when he defacates) or belching solves it. Make sure he always has water available to him so he doesn't feel the need to drink it all at once. Don't let him do anything strenuous right after eating or drinking a lot.

If he is truly bloated, it can become a major issue so watch him carefully, and as your vet about it. Large breeds are more susceptible to it.

Bloat usually caused by poor diet. What are you feeding your dog? A lot of grocery store brand dog foods contain a lot of corn which is not digestible. This will also cause bloat. Try to change his diet to anyone of these dog foods: Nurto Max, Natural Choice, Royal Canin, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet etc. Do it gradually and mix it so you won't cause a upset stomach worse than it is now.

doesn't happen to puppies, usually. keep feedings small and 3-4 x a day. he may just be digesting . mine always lay around after eating. that's a good thing. you don't want them rowdy on a full tummy, that could invite bloat. sure sign is low head , drooling, swollen , cant swallow or keep anything down. remember food will swell 3x its dry size when it hits the stomach. feed small , often. for life.

Many times a puppy with a bloated tummy is a sign of intestinal worms. I would definitely taking him to see a vet.

take your dog to the vet! He may be dealing with a gdv (or a stomach that gets twisted afte he eats!) this is a dangerous condition for a large breed dog, the stomach and large intestine get twisted in the dog's body and could possibly kill!

Take him to the vet. He could be allergic to the food you are giving him. It is unusual for a puppy to be listless. If he wasn't dewormed properly he could have intestinal parasites. Hope this helps.
