I would suggest that you play often and practice as much as you can. Experience is usually the best way to learn, you can play for free at many online poker rooms. I would also suggest that you look into getting a couple of poker books. I have found that David Sklansky's books have been extremely helpful. I personally read a couple of his books, and they have helped me to improve my game and to become a winning poker player. Three books that I would recommend looking into are The Theory of Poker, Hold'em Poker, and Tournament Poker for Advanced Players. Hold'em Poker is great for beginners as it has a lot of information that would help a novice player. It also has some advanced poker tips and strategies. The Theory of Poker is a great book that touches on subjects such as pot odds, semi-bluffing, the free card, and reading your opponents hands. Tournament Poker for Advanced Players is geared specifically for players who know the basics of poker and who would like to improve their tournament game. I have found this book to be a very valuable source of information.

Check out this page, which has these books, as well as some other poker books that you may like:

If you are looking to play poker online you should try playing Texas Hold'em as it is probably the most popular poker game on the internet. If you have no trouble to understand Texas Hold'em,
you should have no trouble to understand either Omaha or Omaha Hi-Lo.
