Cheap and fast is the peroxide formula mentioned above.
Those of us with livestock dogs and hunting dogs that run into skunks, cougars, wolves, snakes, coyotes and porcupines outside, don't have much use for the tomato juice stuff. Giant sized Pink Great Pyrenees that still smell skunky are not amusing. :)
OH, and be sure to take the collar off and soak it in this stuff or the scent will linger..... :)
Here are the instructions:
Wash the pet outside so the skunk spray does not contaminate your house. Bathe pets that have been sprayed in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. (This recipe will wash a small dog the size of a Jack Russell terrier. Make multiple batches for bigger pets.) Make sure the solution soaks through the hair onto the skin. Rinse the animal thoroughly with water after 5 minutes of scrubbing. Repeat if necessary. The hydrogen peroxide mixture must be used immediately after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time. DO NOT STORE IN A CLOSED CONTAINER - it releases oxygen gas so it could break the container. This mixture may bleach the pet's hair. (Paul Krebaum's Recipe from Chemical & Engineering News , October 18, 1993, p. 90).

There are a couple of things you can try. You can get some chemical stuff from a store or your vet or you can try tomato juice and oatmeal. You'll have to wash him in that once a day for three days and then every other day till its gone. Skunk smell from what I know takes a while before it eventually goes away.

I can't remember where I got this formula, and I think it was from a tv show on abc called "Pet Keeping". I don't know if it works, but almost had to find out for myself recently when my dogs & I barely escaped being sprayed.
Skunk Odor Remover
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1 c baking soda
1 t dish soap
Mix into fur as close to skin as possible.
RINSE WELL!!!!!
Wash dog with dog shampoo, rinse again.

It's funny to see this because my aunt has a dog that just got sprayed and she said she tried the tomato bath and it did not help. Well I looked up a web page for you that gives a perozide, baking soda, mild dish soap solution that stinks at first but helps.
Hope this is helpful.

apple juice or tomato juice will do the trick but you will need at least 2-4 large cans. Rub it in to the fur and then using a dog shampoo wash and then rinse. A vet can sell you a better product called green apple.

I groom dogs for a living and we use the above recipe using hydrogen Peroxide, and baking soda. It works so much better than tomato juice and a whole lot less mess. Good luck!

tomato juice is good - vinegar is another - I just put my dog in a room for the night and called a groomer and they have a special solution they can bath your dog in that will take away 90% of the smell.
