I came to believe that I needed help to get by
In childlike faith I gave in and gave him a try
And I came to believe in a power much higher than I

Other than the fact that this is a Johnny Cash song....does this mean anything to you spiritualy??

No smarta$$ answers please

power of love is the most innocent power. Look at the baby who has full faith in the mother while hanging on to her.
God will love you if you have the faith and love of an innocent

Seems like an AA promotion to me. And this isn't a smart-*** answer. I think Cash was in AA and they talk about a higher power there and about just relying on a higher power whether you believe in God or not. They say that after a while you will come to know and then believe in a power higher than yourself which can keep you clean and sober. This song pretty much mirrors AA sentiments. It means nothing at all to me spiritually.

That relates to Step 2 in the 12 Step programs of AA and Na. Johnny Cash has a couple of other great recovery songs. My favorite is "Like a Soldier". "The Beast in Me" is a song about struggling with our dark sides.

Well, it means that in order to let God work in my life I had to let go of my worldly self. There are times, (many), where that self comes back but because of Christ and His love I have leaped many hurdles. If you think of a child, helpless and totally reliant on others, you see me at my worst. I was alone, lost, crippled and afraid. But then I cried, I cried out for the Lord and He entered my heart and made it His home. Now I am still a child, but I am a child safe in a loving Father's arms. I'm safe. I'm loved and I'll never be alone again. Praise God!

It summarizes the only good thing about Christianity. Christianity, as it is, is only good for helping some people get through tough times. I'm sure Mr. Cash would've been fine with a therapist, or even a close friend, but he chose the lord. It's just another solution to a problem.

Putting you salvation in another hands is foolish. One needs to take responsible for there own salvation.

I think Jesus taught that too, but someone who was lazy come up with being save by Jesus, and that become popular, with other all of the other lazy followers.

Going beyond self, with responsibility of others is a higher power.

Sometimes I wish I could just give in like that too.

I think life would be easier if I could just learn to embrace faith and not question everything all the time. It would give me comfort about life and death, and answer all the complex questions I have, if I could just believe.

But my logic and reasoning won't allow me to do that.

it describes my life. When I was a kid I looked to my parents thinking they had all the answers and could fix all my hurts, now I look to God for these things, knowing that He will always be there to comfort me.

it reminds me of that saying: "Ignorance is bliss"
if everywhere you look you see a sign of god, of course that makes you happy. unfortunately for me i look for rational explanations to everything, and find the most of the time, so i cant see things as signs.
