Compare to several dictionaries (yes, there is more than one!)

What amuses me is that not so long ago, spelling was not so standardized. (I like the Renaissance Faire - and yes, they spell it that way on purpose.) Or, even more complicated, that British English differs from American English - such as the spelling of colour versus color. (I think the British spelling looks cooler, but my teachers still mark it wrong!)

Grammatical (with 2 m's) means conforming to the rules of grammar. The dictionaries usually have the grammar in the front of the dictionary and the spelling and description of words follows that. So I have no idea what you are asking about grammar.

If you are saying how do you know a word was spelled wrong, you just (like I looked up your mispelled word of gramatical) the word would not show up. You have to spell it correctly in order to find it. And, now that we work from the internet, either the dictionary website or yahoo search engine (maybe others) will spell the word correctly for you.
