"On Death" by Kahlil Gibran
Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."
And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

Maybe you could change this poem I wrote about a father to about a grandfather. I'll make some alterations to it for you

Where Living Waters Flow
When I was but a boy,
My grandfather's love was plain to see.
He taught me how to swim,
And how to climb a tree.
He told me of Christ Jesus,
Who has a plan for me.
And I delighted in the hearing,
Whilst I was dandled on his knee.
He would set me on a fence post,
With his arms held open wide.
Then call for me to leap off,
And in his arms I'd ride.
Oh those days of youth were wondrous,
But now I've grown to be a man.
My grandfather now has left me,
And I try to do the best I can.
I know I'll miss grandfather,
But there is this that I do know.
He awaits me up in Heaven,
Where the living waters flow.
Rev 7:15-17 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

I wrote this for my Grandfather in February. It is specific to the things he did in his life, but maybe it will give you some ideas. I am very sorry for your loss
Today we come to pay respect
To a man who has meant and done so much.
Husband; Father; Grandpa; Friend;
Sailor; Patriot; a man to the end.
As a husband you loved your wife for more than fifty years.
As a father you raised five wonderful girls
As a Granpa you always had time for us kids.
As a friend to us all, you never left us alone with our fears.
As a sailor proud you served with honor;
As a patriot for life you loved this land.
And as a man you have lead your family in this world
With a strong, but gentle, loving hand.
We were not ready to let you go,
But you were not ours to keep.
It was time for you to be with your Father, who loves you so.
The time came for you to fall asleep.
The angels came to take you away;
Gentle hands carried you to heaven above.
And though we will see you again some glorious day,
It hurts right now, because of our love.
Now you have peace and joy forever more;
You are strong again; sharp, and clear.
You have gone through heaven's narrow door;
For God decided to draw you near.
We don't know why and God how it hurts!
We would give so much for just one more day.
But we have to let go, for, God, you knew him first.
For Your peace and comfort, Father, do we pray.
Grampy-we loved you, and we love you still;
May our memories erase our pain.
God, we trust ourselves to Your perfect will,
As in your care we all remain.
