Jockey silks are made up by the owner of the horse.
All of the jockeys wear the silk of the owner. They have a silks man at the track and he has the shirts for all the owners who have horses at the track. Before the race he sees that the jockey gets the correct silk for the horse he will be riding.
The owner picks his colors and pattern and has them made.

yeah --the jockey is wearing the colors of the stable or in other words the OWNERS!

Now the number the horse wears is the same for each race
#1 = red
#2 =white
#3 =blue
#4=yellow etc.....etc......
so the silks the jockey wears changes for each race
but-the post position of the horse --that color stays the same!

at least thats the colors here in mn

The "silks" that the jockeys wear identify the owner they are riding for. A new owner must register the "design" before they can use it. Not sure who they have to register with. You can check with the racing historian of the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga Springs, NY at nmrhistorian@racingmuseum.net. His name is Alan Carter. Good luck.

the owners choose and design the colors (shirt) then the pattern is sent to the jockey club which is the governing body for racing to have them approved----some "shirts" may look alike in color but no two are alike in design--ther are a sort of data base on every registered owner, or racing stable which is "scrutinized"by an official before the "shirt is approved.
hope this helps.

I know it is the owners for a fact and I believe the entry level is the length of time at that certain track. The longer of tenior the lower the number

I think it is up to the owners or the jockeys, but probably the owners.

LOVE Jockey!! I just wear white unless they have funky colors on sale. I think they are a better quality than Hanes, they last longer.
