It's because they can....Tell them how you expect them to respond in the future.
Just the other day, I scolded teenagers for using bad language in the presence of my kids and other kids (they used the f-word three times in every sentence that came out of their mouths). You should have seen their faces. Utterly shocked...It's better you tell your kids now what your expectations are- or somebody else will try to do it...and believe me- they will look at the person even more perplexed.

Ahhh...if looks could kill I'd have been dead long ago just from the looks my children have cast my way. It's almost enough to make you wither.

Best advice I can give you is to ignore the facial expressions and don't make any of your own. As long as they do as they're told, the faces and grimaces are nothing to worry about. As a matter of fact, the less attention you pay to them, the sooner they will disappear. After all, it's only fun to push mom's buttons when she gets all red in the face and mad.

...and if they're NOT listening to you, start finding ways that will make them want to. After all, everything they get comes from you [and/or Dad], so make it clear, in the most non-threatening way you can, that they will have food to eat [no treats or sweets], clothes to wear [the minimum and only what you choose], and a mattress to sleep on - nothing more. Once you've taken away EVERYTHING else, they'll have to earn it back...and THAT can take a very long time.

Yes, it is you that has the problem. They are having fun making you gray and stressed. They lay in bed at night thinking of new ways to slowly wear you down, so by the time they are teen agers, you can give a crap less. I have 3 boys, and I'm already worn down. I look at it this way...they need to do the surviving...I can make it on my own and make more of them if this batch doesn't turn out good.

Because you are doing it the wrong way.....DUH!!! You have to develop skills and stop yelling and nagging them and ordering them around. You need some books to read. Try watching Super Nanny.

Be careful with that, your projecting a persecution complex onto them.

If you have the power to deny anyone something, you have to expect them to conjure up the most dirtiest look they can muster.

How does your face scrunch up when your denied something?
