No, today's world is over-sensitive and coddling to children. That's why so many are fat, undereducated and on medication.

It's not as bad as it used to be. Why?- Because there's never been this many spoiled & overweight children in the western world. I mean- look at the news clips from the Middle East or from Asian countries; How many fat kids do you ever see in them? Dangerous conditions are not particularly conducive to overweightedness. -It's harder to escape bullets & missiles & killers- if you're 12 years old & packing an extra 25 pounds. So while it's not exactly a picnic out there even now; I think the world IS alittle better for kids than it used to be. :)

A little. People seem to push kids harder than they can go while they are trying to educate themselves. What I hate is that so many adults treat us like we are dirt and out opinions don't matter. Whenever we put our opinion into a problem many adults consider that we don't understand it enough to really do anything. Some of us don't understand the situation enough but that is mainly because no one tells us about it. Quite a few adults think we are too young to comprehend the situation, but we are not! We know what is going on in the world just as much as anyone else! *sigh* It seems as though this won't change in the near decades though.

Not any more so than the world has been in any given century. Wars, poverty, disease, abuse, lack of access to healthcare, natural disasters, harshness within a community- all depends on your perspective. I think an impoverished and hungry child who got caught stealing bread, was tried/convicted and hung for doing so at the tender age of 10 in the 17th century is a little hostile and harsh.

The world is not hostile to children, but there certainly are some people who are...unfortunately.

Any world, where the divorce rate is close to 50%, is not good for children.

But not the whole world is like this. In many non-western countries, marriages are a lot more stable and children are better taken care of.

Yes and no.

Yes because there is too much sex and violence on TV, this society does not produce enough characters to emulate, and it's full of 20-something people who haven't grown up yet, making the world a little bit more f*ed up.

And no because we have turn our society into a cauldron of p*ssies. Kids don't get into sports anymore. Schools are scared of letting kids frolic on playgrounds for fears of lawsuits, parents pamper the crap out of them, and kids compete for who eats the last nacho while getting the highest score in their videogames rather than running outside and getting a tan.

Yes. The world today forces children to grow up sooner than they should. I loved my childhood (graduated highschool 1992) but I can see my children growing up faster than I did, stressing about things much earlier than i did. What happened to being a kid?

yes. sometimes, they are forced to grow up too fast, and other times not fast enough. often at the same time. this is not only the law, but paents, teachers, and other adults, as well as other kids, too. the world is ageist, and it sucks
