Select all the text in the word window and copy it to a notepad window. Notepad is found in the Accessories section of your programs. Then save the file as whatever name you want.

The rich text format can only be read by certain programs
so use just TXT format instead.

Go to file, save as, click on file type, and select the rich text format (rtf). Then copy and paste into a document or your're able to send it and the other person is able to open it in practically any program. Good luck!

You might try circumventing a Text (.txt) document alltogether.

Copy and Paste the the document (the text itself) into a plain-text email. Not as an attachment, but as the "message" portion of the email. Then send it (email it) to your friend.

He/she might have to reformat the text, but it will be easily readable.
