Who would do that? The benefits ARE great but hardly worth marrying someone you don't even love.

There are women here that will only date military men. I'm sure they wouldn't marry anyone. But the one they fall in love with has to be in the military so that they'll be entitled to those fantastic medical benefits. Lyposuction, Lasik, etc. It's all free for the military wife. And don't forget about all the places you go. In addition the person in the military gets a raise for getting married.

On top of this, once the military person gets deployed for months at a time, life just becomes a party for the spouse.

Ya know what?

I made more money and had just as great of health benefits when I worked before I married my husband and moved. They don't have the same industry I worked in anywhere we've lived since (major insurance companies).

So, in effect I took a major paycut.

But I'm sure many people have married military for the benefits.
Payscales are online - accessible to anyone I believe the site is dfas.com or something similar so you can see how poorly they are paid for putting their lives at risk.

As a military wife let me tell you that the benefits are nice but they don't make up for the many of nights I have slept in my bed alone because my husband was in the field or deployed. The benefits don't make up for that and if you marry someone for that reason and that reason only your marriage probably wont work out.

My husband is in the army and I am constantly hearing about some 20 yr old guy marrying a 40 yr old with 5 kids after knowing them 2 weeks. So yeah it happens.....a lot! Also alot of guys marry a girl and pay them a little something so that the can get the BAH allotment and live off base. It's all just kinda tacky to me.

I know a few that have married for the benefits. They may provide their newly acquired spouse with health benefits, but they take any extra pay they get for having a spouse (BHA, COLA, Speration Pay). Granted, most marry for love b/c god knows being a military spouse is not easy, but some do do it for the perks.

I CAN TELL YOU....IT'S PRETTY CRUEL AND SLOPPY TO MARRY SOMEONE JUST FOR BENEFITS. IT WONT LAST....ITS JUST WRONG. MY FIANCE IS IN THE USAF. HE WAS ONLY HOME FOR 5 MNTHS BEFORE THEY DEPLOYED HIM AGAIN.....IT SUCKS. LIKE LOSING A BEST FRIEND. ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAVE A 3 YR OLD AND TRYING TO HAVE ANOTHER.
