I heard of a survey in the U.K. that asked Muslims if they identify themselves as Muslim or British first. I don't remember the exact number, but I think the majority said Muslim. So I ask you guys: Are you a Christian/Muslim/Jew/ etc. first, or an American first?
If you don't mind, state your religion please.

I'm Pagan. While I may disagree at times with the laws and actions of our government, change will come through due process. Either the legislature or the judicial system will make the appropriate changes. What I can't understand is this: If Christians put God before country, then why are so many of them so super-patriotic. Why should this country and its symbols mean anything to a Christian who puts God first? I'll post this as a question for answers.

Christian first, Canadian a distant and receding second...
It isn't that Christianity makes me less patriotic, though I am wary of my nation being an idol to me, it is simply that Christians are called to regard earth as a temporary home, one that we should be thankful for and take good care of but still a temporary home.

I too have been disillusioned by my country, its leaders and people yet I still care about Canada which I regard as a blessing to live in.

I am a Messianic Christian FIRST as ultimately I am accountable to God, no matter where my body dwells I am committed to following and obeying the statutes and standards that God has given. I am American second and according to God's word, unless it goes directly against God, I will obey the laws of the land

I'm an atheist before I'm an American. I'd rather not be an American at all, with the way the country is going.

I am an American first.
I simply embrace the Catholic tradition at this time....I am married to a Jewish man and consider myself a born-again Bible believing Christian....so....my politics are separate from my religion(s).

It depends on the context. I'm a student of Buddhism and Australian, but I think I get more of a sense of who I am by my actions and achievements, which is probably quite superficial.
