Hello

A peritonsillar abscess can be very very painful. The swelling it causes can give you bad pain from your throat to your ear which then can give you headaches also.
Depending on the size of the abscess it can be treated with oral antibiotics or you may have to go into hospital to have intravenous antibiotics. If you are having extreme pain and the abscess is not responding to the medication within two days then it would be recommended that the abscess be drained.
Rest assured that draining it does not spread the bacteria everywhere.. it in fact will release the pressure and allow healing to take place. Some times the abscess is known by another name if you would like to know more.. look up quinsy.

Good luck, I have had it multiple times and have always responded to oral antibiotics.

No, i haven't. Who diagnosed you with peritonsillar abscess? Are you having any systemic symptoms like high fever, chills and cold sweats? If so then you need to see your doctor immediately. Chances are that you need to be place on antibiotics for the swelling to go down. As long as there is an active infection, it is not advisable to lance (i.e. surgically cut) and drain the abscess. The reason for the latter is because the bacteria within the abscess can spread.

Yeah...is that that cyst that you get inside your peritoneum (the area between your vagina and your butt?) You need to go to a doctor to get it drained, otherwise they can cause a lot of problems.
