It's an interesting point.

Everybody, to a great extent, will derive judgements on right and wrong, okay and taboo, from their surroundings. It's programed into us from a very young age. I'm actually taking a class that studies that.

Personally, I don't think that either of the things you mentioned are incredibly wrong. The problem everyone states with cousins marrying is, of course, genetics. But unless a line is inbred for several generations, like the European royal lines became, then it's not a big deal. Genetically speaking. So what other argument do you have other than "It's wrong"? And as for homosexuality, I don't see how anyone can call it wrong when no one is hurt by the practice. It's just that people fear what they don't understand, so someone, a long time ago, called it "wrong" and the label stuck.

I think that it is important to develop one's own opinions before making a judgement, instead of blindly calling something wrong because you've been told it is so.

If you're interested in seeing a fantastic analysis of Western culture wrapped up in a really gripping novel, read "stranger in a strange land." It's really intellectual, but it's also really fascinating.
