My mother decorates eggs via Ukrainian egg decorating technique (real eggs with wax, dye, etc.; it's a complex art). She is very good at it, and she gave me some as a gift several years ago. I brought them with me to wherever I go, but I broke my favorite one today...

I was running to answer the door, and I tripped on a rug, but I didn't fall then. Instead, I stumbled into the counter, stumbled backwards into the table, got my foot caught around a chair leg somehow, and tripped on that. On my way down, I grabbed the cloth decoration which is under the decorated eggs. Then one of the eggs fell off of the table--my favorite one.

Should I tell my mum there was a hurricane here or should I tell her the truth the next time she calls me? I accept and am not ashamed of my clumsiness, but I think my mum is.

I was also already punished for it...the delivery man at the door asked what was going on because the egg smelled when it was broke. I lied and told him I was cooking.

No, no, no...my mum isn't Ukrainian; the technique for making the egg is Ukrainian...although she is sort of close to Ukraine, but she's not Ukrainian!

As I say, this Ukrainian egg decorating is a complex, but beautiful technique.

Tell Mom the TRUTH...This is a Test of your character to see if you'll lie...The Truth is that this was NOT your fault--you did nothing wrong..It was an accident and accidents happen. Your Mom will UNDERSTAND..Trust me, your Mother loves you more than she loves yourself. As long as you're alive and doing well, she shouldn't get upset about an egg..There are people dying everyday, being shot in drive by shootings, dying in hurriaces---if she flips out about an egg, then she'll get over it in about 4 minutes I'm sure...Tell her to make you a new one--that will maker her feel Special, and sh'd like that you loved it soo much :)
Thats how Moms are--you can rob a bank, kill 10 people, and drown 8 puppies--and if you say "sorry Mom", they will forgive and take you in their arms.

Peace

Oh, I'm so sad you broke your favourite pysanka! I know how that feels! Tell your mom the truth; after all, it was an accident. You are lucky only one broke. Do you mind if I tell a story about my pysanky? I had been making them since I was a young girl, so had quite a collection of my own, and others I had gotten as gifts. When I went away to University, I took them along with me. That was okay for a few years, all survived moving back and forth from home to school each year. Except one year, I must have lost my mind. For transport, I put them in a clear container with a lid. Unfortunately, when I got home I didn't take off the lid, and didn't move them out of that container. What people may not know, is that Ukrainian Easter Eggs need to breathe, even though the insides may be dried out. Well, one day that container exploded in my bedroom, and stunk to high heaven! I took the container and eggs out to the backyard and spread them out on the grass, but none of the dozens of eggs was salvageable! I was soooo sad, and still am that I lost so many of these treasures due to my own stupidity! Nothing could make up for the loss of them...

Oh that's too bad that it broke you should tell her and apologize and buy her something nice. Maybe a golden egg from wil ly wonka. Say that you are sorry and that you really truly loved the egg and just give her something nice because you feel bad.

(you know i realized that this is the first time in a long time that we are on the computer at the same time, you work i go to school, well it's great answering again) : )

tell her the truth, say sorry, im sure she understands. make up by paying her a visit if it calls for it; tell her you will come by and help her with her art the next time round( i think mothers are just waiting for that). by the way, why not do it with synthetic or wooden eggs, they last forever and you get to enjoy them after your mom is no longer around and share them with generations after. you can get them from the craft store. don't hang on to tradition too much in this case. it's not the egg that counts, it's your mother's art

Why "volunteer" to tell her at all? It was a gift, after all, and what you do with a gift is your business. Sometimes "the less said, the better" is a pretty good policy.

If she does notice that it's missing and asks, simply tell her that there was an accident and the egg got broken. Don't offer any more details than that. . .why get yourself hung with your own tongue.

Just tell her the truth. Accidents happen. Just try to be a little careful next time. It might hurt your mom's feelings, but the truth hurts!

Just tell her the truth. It was an accident afterall, how would she feel if you broke the egg and your head? As long as your ok, that is all that matters.

I sympathize with your dilemna, particularly about Ukrainian mothers. Personally I wouldn't mention it; it will just upset her and mothers rarely think rationally (at least mine doesn't).

tell her how it happened. I bet she will be thrilled to have an excuse to get out the wax and the ties and everything and make some more of them.
