You are to be admired for your ambition. Getting a GED is no easy task despite what some may think so congratulations. If you are unsure of your interests....you could take an aptitude test to find out where your talents and abilities lie. A local community college may be able to administer the test. If you need a relatively quick career path may I suggest enrolling in a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nursing course? They are usually 11 months long and depending upon what part of the country you live in you could earn up to 40,000 dollars a year. Many community colleges offer this course of study in a ladder program which would allow you to begin earning good money after the first year while studying to become a Registered Nurse . An RN can earn up to 80,000 dollars a year and the opportunities are vast. There is a serious nursing shortage in this country so finding a job after graduation is gauranteed. Good luck and God bless!

You don't specify what you are studying so it's hard to say where you'll end up. Probably in retail stores such as Wal-Mart, Target or fast food restaurants. If this is okay with you, then you don't need input from this forum. I'll assume you are studying Engineering. First of all, as most people have replied, a GED education will only get you low paying jobs in most areas including Engineering. That doesn't mean you won't get some decent pay raises along the way, but you'll eventually reach a limit where your educational background will not allow you to move further. This is acceptable for some people so only you can make that decision; if you are lucky to work with a good supervisor that sees some potential and encourages you to complete your education you'll have a better chance. Secondly, let me ask you this and offer some advice, why are you willing to stop with a GED education? is that as far as your dreams go?, there are so many opportunities for higher education today that it doesn't seem possible that you would want to stop at this level. You don't have to be a braniac to enhance your knowldege in a field that you are really interested at, you only need to be educated and willing to work hard to suceed at it. Don't waste your time and your life wanting more, for every year you don't attend college, you waste another year which could have been closer to actually graduating! I seriously urge you to stay in school and work if you have to, but do everything you can to continue your college education, if nothing else; at least 2 years. Of course, I do not know your situation but at least consider the advice!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Hearing that you've achieved your goal of a GED is outstanding work, work that you should be most proud of. Along with that you must give yourself the credit you deserve in previously being a homemaker as well. That too is a job within itself although it doesn't pay too many bills.

Just having a GED in the area I'm in means a difference of about $8 an/hour for the lower paying jobs. (And I mean $8 an/hour more than someone without a GED, not just $8 an/hour) So already you have increased your potential income considerably.

Visit a Junior College or Technical College and talk with one of their councillors. They can assist you in obtaining information about any financial help that is available for you in your situation as well as be able to go over with you realistic possibilities for your future according to your interests and how much time you have to invest in your studies.

Good Luck and again Congratulations!!!!

Well first it's great that you want to get yourself together! You should NEVER really depend on a man to get you by in life! Second, ALOT of jobs now will take people that have a GED but I believe you have to have a high score or something like that. You can also go to a technical school and complete a college program in like 9 months or less and have a certification. With that you can get a good job and maybe then you can go to a real college or univ and continue on from there. Most jobs will pay for your college edu. But it is very important to have atleast some type of college level edu to get a pretty good paying job. PLEASE get into some type of school or college program! You can even check into online college classes or your local community college.

GOOD LUCK

A high school diploma is OVER-RATED .You'll do just fine with a GED.I dropped out of high school when i was 16 and recieved my GED 1 month later. After that I enrolled in a Junior college and graduated with an A.S. degree in mathematics by the time i was 18,which is the time i should of finished high school.By the time my friends graduated high school,I already had a college degree.Upon completion of my A.S. and a GPA of 3.8, I transferred to The University of Southern California (usc) and by the time i was 20 yrs old graduated with a Bachelor's of Science(B.S.) in Aerospace Engineering.I went on to grad school after that and by the time I was 22 I graduated with a masters in PHYSICS. I am now 23 and I work for BOEING As a Head engineer and I'm planning on becoming a proffesor at usc next year and teach physics.I am very proud of my success and all of this started with a simple GED.

First, before anything, congratulations. Have you decided if you wanted to go to a training school or college. The reason I ask that is because it seem now a days having a ged/hsdiploma is not enough. Look thru your local newspaper, or check out the training schools/colleges in your area. Look at what is being offered. Research it and then decide from there.

Go into the health field, high demand jobs, very rewarding careers w/ advancements, high paying positions and you can usually obtain a 2 yr health care degree at a low-cost community college. Congrats on the GED, don't stop now, keep going!!!

A good short term and fairly easily obtained certification is for medical transcriptionist. High demand and good field to get involved in that could open many doors for later training.

it depends on what you are interested in . . think about something that you could see yourself doing for a living and being happy with . . then take classes aimed toward that profession . . .

and don't worry about what other people say because it's YOU that will have to live with the decisions that you make!!
