As another participant likes to point out, the sense of the word "believe" isn't the same for Christians when referring to their "beliefs" as it is for real beliefs. Same thing for the word "truth". For you and I, "truth" has something to do with whether or not the statement in question accurately describes reality. For Christians, "truth" has nothing to do with reality, but instead is a matter of whether or not the statement in question is compatible with their religious beliefs.

I will be honest with you. No I don't believe in that story.
What you have to understand is that story was written a long time ago when people were illiterate. It is an explanation.
What I do believe is that we are all accountable for our behaviour and deeds on this earth.
I firmly believe that Jesus came to teach us another way of living our life. Even he spoke in parables so the common people would understand him.
I'm sure he knows you are a sophisticated know it all.
Still I don't know what your problem is.

Actually, it took billions, not trillions, of years.
But you're still off by less of a factor than those who think it's only a few thousand years old.
Although I'm not religious, I think most believers are just that -- believers. Because one of the great advantages of your belief is the comfort it provides you regarding your own mortality (that you will live forever in a 'better world') and this advantage only obtains if you actually believe. The goal of your belief isn't primarily to uncover the real nature of the universe, but to convince yourself that your life is meaningful and everlasting. To preserve these values, most people will deny the evidence of their senses, and of thier reasoning mind.

Yes, I do believe there is another realm we cannot see now. I became born again in 1978. Father was an atheist like you, mother a Christian Scientist who did not believe Christ was the Son of God - was a major intellectual at the time, cynic, sceptic, etc. The Holy Spirit descended upon me and opened my eyes.
As George Bernard Shaw said: "To those who don't believe, no proof is sufficient; to those who do, no proof is necessary".
Also, if you read the Bible you'll find a quote that says: "My days are like unto a thousand years of yours". So what's wrong with 7 "God" days being the same as billions of years in human time?

yea, i totally believe that:
-God created the earth in 6 days (He rested on the 7th)
i have yet to see/hear and PROOF that its creation took trillions of yrs.
-my soul will go to be with God in heaven when my body dies
who ever said heaven & hell were in the sky??
-Jesus DIED for EVERYONE'S sins because He LOVED us and came back to life and went to Heaven
next time if u don't want a serious answer, don't ask a question; and if u do want a serious answer, make sure u know what ur talking about and don't trash ur audience once ur thru asking.

DID YOU GET YOUR ATTENTION OR ARE YOU ONLY GONNA GET 6 PEOPLE TO ANSWER THIS MORONIC STATEMENT.?
i cant believe i just wasted my time answering this

Well, actually we believe in six day creation, not seven. And no, it has never been proven that the earth is "trillions" of years old, in fact, most evidence to date support a young earth.
Now that we have established that you are both theologically and geologically ignorant, I can state affirmatively that I do believe in the teachings of Scripture. It has been proven true, over and over again. I do believe in Heaven and Hell, and I know, through the words of Scripture, that Heaven is my home. I am fully confident of it, and have no doubts. I noticed you did not state your beliefs, but then you may have actually answer for them, and that would require deeper thought.
And your opinion of our mental state is irrelevant. It is simply another smoke screen to hide your obtuseness.

no one has proven that it has taken trillions of years for anything.
you need to do some more research on your "facts" before you make this claim.
no one has proven that you DON't go anywhere after your body dies either
When you can prove that either one of these two comments you have made are TRUE beyond doubt, then by all means come back and gloat.
for now - you have a belief in a religion just as anyone elso has.

Wow. You have some really basic views of Christianity down, but not the whole story. Too bad you made your decision without all the answers.
First of all - proof is relative. Yes, I'm a Christian. No, I don't believe the world was literally created in 6 days. There are two creation stories in Genesis - did you know that? Many cultures share similar creation and flood stories, so no, I don't believe there were actually two bellybuttonless people named Adam and Eve who ran around naked, or a real guy named Noah. But that's just me. Many people do believe it. That doesn't make them, or me, any less of a Christian. The only requirement for Christianity is that you accept Jesus as your Savior. There are a bunch of different branches of Christianity, so please don't lump us all together.
Yes, I believe in God, yes I believe in Jesus, and I believe Jesus died and came back to life. Now we come to the 'proof is relative' part again. I believe in God because I have seen what is proof - to me. That may not be proof to you. But again, it is to me. That's between me and God, and frankly none of your business. I believe in evolution to. But you know what YOU have no proof of? You have NO proof as to how that first spark of life happened. That was God.
I'm not sure why my faith bothers you people so much. And if YOU really think that my belief is going to be shattered into pieces because some random person on Yahoo Answers told me God doesn't exist? YOU'RE the one who's NUTS.
Peace to you, my friend. I pray that you remain happy, and that you are blessed.
You may not believe in God, but he still believes in you.
