What is an appropriate rate to pay a family friend that is willing to homeschool your child, but says to pay what you are willing to pay?

Your typical specialized tutor will run between $20 and $30 dollars per session (generall 1-2 hours) for music lessons, math tutoring, etc. Your typical day care provider would receive between $25 and $45 dollars per day.

Your friend's duties, time and expertise will likely fall between those two sets of figures, and of course ultimately will be determined by your ability to pay.

Figure out what daycares in the area would charge per hour. If you can, pay a little more than what the daycare would charge to have your child there. Or find out the cost of the cheapest private school in your state and work out something based on that.

$250/week is insane. That works out to a little over $1000 a month.

I would say about $250 a week. But, I would take into consideration how old your child is, if the child is in elementary school then I would pay less than if the child is in high school.

No less than private school would cost per month. And hopefully enough to make it "worth their while".
