I am a 13-year-old girl with an advanced degree in web design and no serious health problems, but I have been compulsively and secretly eating crayons for months. I don't mean chewing on a crayon here and there, I mean eating a 64 count box, and doing it several times a week. I can't stop, and I don't know why I'm doing this. I am too embarrassed to tell my parents, because I know they'll think I am crazy. The box says the crayons are non-toxic. And this is a really stupid question, but are they fattening? Why am I doing this? Am I crazy? Please help.

An advanced degree in web design at 13, that is impresssive. The design on my site is simple but still works. What do you think of it? Take 5 minutes to read this page first and then it refers you to other pages to help you.

Mental health is associated with physical health. This may be your way of dealing with stress. Keep a written log of how you feel right before you want to do it. Try finding someone you can talk to about it. This is the advice for people doing cutting. The log can help you become a writer where you give advice from your own website.

You really should tell your mom. She loves you and wants what's best for you, she won't think your crazy. I don't think your crazy. There are ALOT of people that share this problem with you. You know some ppl pull out there own hairs and eat them? It's a REAL disorder and there is treatment for you. No, your not retarted or anything bad. I'm quite sure there is a name for this disorder also. Best of Luck to you.
P.S. What your eating is pure wax, so no I don't think that would be fattening..but that's not the problem here anyways.

It sounds like you may have Pica. Pica is an appetite for non-foods (e.g., coal, soil, chalk, paper etc.) The majority of people that have Pica tend to suffer some biochemical deficiency and more often iron deficiency. It is a common thing, but since you're worried about what your parents might think, I would print out some research from the web and show them when you tell them...that way maybe they won't think it's so strange. I would definitely see a doctor, maybe get blood work done to check for any deficiencies. Good luck!

No my dear you are not crazy but there is definitely something wrong for you to be doing this.It maybe frightening to talk to your parents but if you tell them you need to talk to them seriously, I'm asking for help I'm sure they will listen.Maybe if you talked to a school guidance councilor or nurse first they may give you some idea of how to approach your parents. Can you get to a doctor by yourself and explain it to him/her.
The crayons say non-toxic but eating that many may still be doing some harm so be brave and get some help.Your embarrassment will go away but finding out why you are doing this without seeking help may not.You can do it.

No, it doesn't sound like you are crazy, although something is definitely wrong. You need to tell your parents about this so they can get you the help you need. If you think they'll just blow you off and yell and tell you to stop, go to a school counselor. Remember, that's what they're there for. Then maybe they can contact your parents for you and let them know that this isn't just a willpower type problem , but one that needs counseling. Or maybe they'll set up counseling for you there at school so your parents never need to know, but please inform someone.Good Luck!

I think you should tell them. Crayons aren't toxic or fattening because they are colored wx in a nutshell. But this isn't normal. I suggest talking to someone about this.
