nelita: "Let me try your tactic....." I do not curse my son with death and disease, nor do I kick him out of the house for disobedience. I love my son, have patience, and continue to educate him without inflicting harm upon him. Is that what God did to A&E? Not only did he curse them with death and disease, he cursed their descendants ad infinitum.
I might be wrong, but I -think- God and I disagree on the matter of how to handle disobedient innocents.

Good for you, you can find scripture and try to twist it to suit your purpose. Flip him a fish!
Have you ever noticed how a small child can run naked into a room full of strangers and feel no embarassment? He is not aware of his nakedness, just as Adam and Eve were not aware in their innocence. After they sinned, shame and awkwardness followed, creating barriers between themselves and God. Why would God create a tree and forbid Adam to eat from it? Because He wanted Adam to obey, but He gave Adam the freedom to choose. Without choice, Adam would have been like a prisoner and his obedience would have been hollow. The two trees provided an exercise in choice with rewards for choosing to obey and consequences for choosing to disobey. The name of the tree of knowledge of good and evil implies that evi had already occured, if not in the garden then in the time of satan's fall.
Let me try your tactic.....do you want your 4 year old to obey you? If you tell him to pick up his toys that is a good thing and he is rewarded with praises or something else. But if he leaves his toys out and you step on a car and fall and break your back, there are consequences. So, do you not allow him to have playthings because he might disobey you and you or he might get hurt OR let him have all the toys he wants; leave them out all them time and risk life and limb every time you talk through the living room? Same logic, you are a loving parent, so you give your child choices and trust him to make the right ones. You don't want to be a dictator that maps his every move. Neither does our God.
EDIT: Touche' Bob. I do believe you are an intelligent man, and I understand where you are coming from. No, we don't discipline our children the same way God disciplines us, And I know you & I will disagree on this, (we can agree to disagree you know and leave it at that), but I will stand my belief that God doesn't give us any more than we deserve--good or bad. And I honestly don't believe that the bad things that happen to us come from God, I believe that they are 100% from satan. From my experience and not speaking for anyone else, bad things happen in my life when I get away from God, I leave the door open for satan to torment and try me. God always protects me even though I don't see or understand the good out of my trials, I know He will use it to a greater good if I just let Him. God wants us to choose to follow Him and not disobey-- so when we die, we will not suffer the consequences of hell. I know, I know, I know that doesn't make sense or even sound rational PERIOD, let alone to those who don't believe in God, but that is just they way we (Christians) believe. Maybe you see it as foolish, but that is just us. I do wish you peace, happiness and continued health and happiness for your family. Just take my opinion or leave it, and I will do the same for you, but if I disagree with you, I have to put my 2 cents in! :-)

They did not have the sin nature. They did sin though. The sin was eating what God told them would kill them if they ate it. And we all have the sin nature because of the fall. Jesus, being born of a woman, was like the first Adam in His flesh before the fall. He had to be tempted by the old snake also. He was, and did not sin. So that is why He is the Sinless Lamb of God, and death could not keep Him in the grave. He rose from the dead.
All creation was good when God created it.
Lost innocence happened when they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good & evil after God told them not to.

of course they were innocent. As a child runs around naked (they all do about the ages of 1-3) they are not ashamed. Why? because they do not have the knowledge of sin. So Adam and Eve were innocent in many ways like a small child is innocent. They do not sin because they do not know what sin is. Also because they were in the presence of God while in the Garden, they did not have the temptations we do in our lives because of the influence of Satan and his followers.

They were innocent. There wasn't any pornography back then. It was just the two of them. God made them that way. If He wanted them to wear clothes, then I'm sure it could have been arranged.
