I keep hearing how terrible Christian were in 1212 AD for killing ten's of thousands.

How do atheist "Explain" their man Joesph Stalin who murdered 70 Million people.
Joe Stalin who said Christianity was for the weak!
The Leader of the Soviet Union who "OFFICIALLY EMBRACED ATHEISM"

then we'll get to the Atheist Chairman Mao another outstanding and vocal atheist who killed more people than cancer!

My problem with some Christians is that they use the examples of a few outspoken Atheists or Muslims to represent the whole. Which is why I bring up History, and its examples of violence in the name of Christianity.

My point is that if you don't want some Inquisitors or Crusaders representing your religion (and those who belong to it) as a whole, then don't do the same for other beliefs.

Stalin wasn't killing people for atheism. Instead, he was killing people in the name of very distorted idea of communism, which has the same degree of irrationality and ignorance as religion. Both religion and stalinism share the same elements: obedience, infallibility of its ideology, prohibition against questioning authority, etc. It would be silly of a rational-thinking atheist to establish his own views as absolute and unquestionable. So, stalinist craziness has really nothing to do with atheism.

But religious fanatics were killing, and are still killing, people in the name of their gods.

Joseph Stalin wasn't an Atheist...he was evil. A sick, evil waste of life. All atheists I know are FAR more peace-loving and life-loving than the many Christians. Christians and Catholics have killed more people in the name of God and Ignorance than any other mass religion. Turn your hate on yourself before you breed.

Yeah, so while we're explaining our "boy Joe"... you can continue explaining all of the wars and lives claimed in the name of religion. I can gaurantee you that you'll find that the explaining you have to do, far exceeds what we're faced with.

As an aside, I'd like it to be noted that the crusades, both inquisitions, the salem witch trials, the European witch trials all put together don't add up to one million dead. When you say that if we look at history Christianity has caused so much bloodshed, it seriously pales compared to stalin, pol pot, and the rest of his friends.

You are really ignorant. We don't claim each other or any other non believers. We are individual people who only happen to have non belief in common, we don't congregate together like the religious do. Or do you not get that fact. A sick wacko isn't "our boy," we claim no one, unlike you all who would have to claim any sicko Christian.

The differance here is that Stalin did not kill in the name of Athiesm. Many of the atrocities commited by Christians, such as the Crusaides, were done in the name of Christianity. What religion you are should not matter in what you do, unless you make it the reason for what you do.
