Yes, Mary was told ahead of time that she would be pregnant by the angel Gabriel. Mary was troubled at first, but then she accepted the word the angel had given her. You can read about it in Luke 1:26ff or Matthew 1:18-24.

It became into undemanding in historical myths and storytelling for Gods to be born of a virgin. The writers (1st century Jews) of this tale borrowed from this custom in telling the story of Jesus. in certainty, the earliest gospel writings of the recent testomony is the Gospel of Mark and he makes no point out of a virgin start. The virgin tale would not floor till years later in the Gospel of Matthew. For some reason the author of the Gospel of Matthew desperate to up the ante and upload the virgin start. See money owed of Romulus, Apollonius of Tyana, Drusilla, Claudius, Dionysus-Bacchus, Tammuz-Adonis, Mithra, Osiris, Krishna, and Buddha. All of those gods have been born of a virgin and rose from the ineffective, and all existed lots previously than the story of Jesus.

Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel and told she would be the mother of the Messiah. Mary gave her assent and said "Let it be done unto me according to they word" and she accepted this as God's will. You can find this in the Gospel of Luke.

The virgin birth is a common religious metaphor to symbolize that a person had an enlightenment experience where they realized that they were not this body (their minds opened up to their reality as spirit -- the non-animal, non-body state). It's been used in Buddhism, too. Its symbolism has been COMPLETELY turned upside down and made into a literal virgin birth which is silly.

I think the answer is very simple. Any "freaking out" by her would have occured at the first encounter with Gabriel's announcement. Remember Gabriel told her to "Fear Not?" I mean, if any of us were to have such an encounter, don't you think we would have "freaked out" at meeting him rather than to "freak out" later when what he said came to pass? Once you meet an angel "in person" I guess any other supernatural occurence becomes a non-issue.

She was told what was happening still in the early stages of her pregnancy. I wouldve been a little more freeked out at the responsibility that was just givin to me by my creator and God.
I believe there is a passage that says she was happy. And there are several other passages that speak of her love for her son.
ill do a little research for you and see if i can find the passage im speaking of

she did freak out, thats why she told everyone that an angel from heaven told her the great God has made her pregnant. she couldnt exactly tell every one she had been having sex outside of marriage. Thats why Joseph played along, it really was his kid.
Its amazing, One little lie like that has lead to so much destruction in the world.
