My name is Andrea Bustamante and I'm researching as well. My father has a large family [9 brothers and sisters]but they know very little about the Bustamante lineage. My father does not know any cousins, uncles etc. with the Bustamante name. Where we are from this name is not common. My father told me that we had some italian in us. My uncle says that it is very difficult to trace an accurate history since people just got married had kids migrated without documentation. He jokes, saying "for all we know, our greatx4 grandfathers were slaves to a Bustamante family and we were name after them.

Bustamante has origin from the Roman period in Italy, but since the days where Christopher Columbus forge strong ties with Spain there have been a lot of Nobel House with Italian sir names taking root in Spain. But your origin is from Italy but you family tree probably has branches growing in Spain as well. Ask your mom and dad, they'll probably agree with me.

I went to college with Tony Bustamante. He has sisters named Anna and Gina and there were four or five brothers. If you're from the Chicago area, look them up.
